It seems like a lot but they have a lot of channels to manage. Howard Stern probably has a staff of a few dozen just for himself. Someone has to program all the music playlists. Someone has to produce all the podcasts etc.
I never thought it was a viable business long term as people get cars that can stream the internet from their phones why subscribe to radio? That is why they paid big bucks for names like Howard Stern and Joe Rogan - Joe eventually quit and went to Spotify which is probably a much leaner operation. Not much to produce just keep every song ever made on some servers and let the customers make and share their own programming.
The nice thing about XM is when you’re doing a long trip, you don’t need to worry about rural areas with spotty coverage as you do with streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. And I do like some of the DJ’s.
