Woke Folks Looking for Jobs: 'Report' Finds Resumes That Include 'They/Them' Are More Likely to be Overlooked
PJ Media ^ | 03/04/2023 | Rick Moran

A report from Business.com finds that there is discrimination against “non-binary” people. At least, non-binary people believe there is discrimination. “Over 80% of nonbinary people believe that identifying as nonbinary would hurt their job search,” the report finds. Also, 51% believe their gender identity has “affected their workplace experience.”

Business.com sent out two identical “phantom” resumes to “180 unique job postings that were explicitly open to entry-level candidates” in an effort to test “whether or not the inclusion of gender-neutral pronouns impacts how employers perceive resumes.”

“Both featured a gender-ambiguous name, ‘Taylor Williams.’ The only difference between the test and control resumes was the presence of gender pronouns on the test version,” Ryan McGonagill said in the report. “The test resume included ‘they/them’ pronouns under the name in the header.”

“The phantom resume including pronouns received 8% less interest than the one without, and fewer interview and phone screening invitations,” according to CNBC’s “Make It.”

Eight percent is not a huge difference in such a small sample, especially when the “test” has no way to rule out other factors that may have impacted a manager’s decision not to call back. But the “test” was weighted to ensure the result desired by Business.com.

“We clearly have more work to do on several fronts. Over the past 10 years, DEIB efforts have been prioritized by many companies; however, the results of this study and past research show that teams in most industries aren’t proportionately representative of the U.S. population,” McGonagill tells CNBC Make It (emphasis added). “And worse, many people (like the nonbinary individuals we spoke with in our research) feel like they don’t belong.”

Were I still hiring folks, I wouldn’t overlook them, I’d burn them. But then, I needed really good STEM types - ones that used real math, not “woke” math. Folks that got correct answers.

Businesses are reluctant to hire people with obvious mental issues? Really?

Because nothing screams “I’m mentally ill and would likely be an issue for the company” like they/them pronouns.

I would never hire anyone who felt the need to put their sexual orientation on their resume. Seriously, unless you are applying for a job at a brothel, what you do with your genitals is not your employer’s business.

Show me the resumes. I don’t offhand see where anyone would use a pronoun on a resume, especially a plural pronoun.

There’s no room for that shit in the real world. If I had an application in front of me with preferred pronouns, into the trash it goes and on to the next one.

I have no idea of what I just read.
Interviews are the easiest thing I do. Either you seem to be a good fit, and you offer them a position. In time if they don’t work out. Your fired. Nothing personal….
Sometimes personal.😉

My company made these silly pronouns available for online profiles and email signatures about a year ago.

Virtually nobody uses them except people in HR. They would look awfully stupid and unprofessional if they did, even if they were using the conventional "he/him" and "she/her"

A friend of mine had a interesting thought: What if someone identifies as a slave master and demands all blacks call him “Master”? Well that would never happen because it would be called too offensive. OK. So having to put up with men dressed as women - which gets quite a lot of people physically sick to their stomach - is not offensive? It’s interesting how all of a sudden we have these self appointed morality dictators commanding us about what is and isn’t offensive. What’s next, forcible acceptance of child rapists?

We went to the local grocery store one day, and the new checker had her “they/them” pin on her lapel.
That was the first and last time I ever saw her.
She seemed to radiate a pissed off attitude even though she never said a word.
I never indicated anything one way or another, but I wished I had laughed.

Now, I can.
LOLOL !

A fellow I'd worked with for quite a few years decided to be a "woman." Surgery and all. Nice person but the reality didn't match the hope. Transferred to another facility and then ended up as a suicide.

Another one I worked with did the same thing but managed ok. Very creative engineer with a good list of patents. Another never could decide what he was. Pants one day, dress the next. Competent engineer but totally messed up.
