Oregon Considers Bill That Would Give Homeless People $1,000 a Month – No Strings Attached

Lawmakers in the state of Oregon are considering a bill that would provide homeless people with $1,000 a month with no strings attached.

Is there any wonder why so many people in Oregon are trying to secede to the state of Idaho?

If Oregon wants to become the homeless capital of the country, this is an excellent way to do it.

FOX News reports:

Oregon bill would pay homeless people $1,000 a month

The state of Oregon is weighing a bill to give homeless and low-income people $1,000 a month in universal basic income.

The Oregon legislature is considering a bill to establish a People’s Housing Assistance Fund Demonstration Program through the state’s Department of Human Services.

Oregon’s bill is the latest in blue states looking to give handouts to people in universal basic income (UBI) programs.

According to Bill Track 50, the legislation would “provide 12 monthly payments of $1,000 to individuals who are experiencing homelessness, are at risk of homelessness, are severely rent burdened or earn at or below 60 percent of area median income.”

The bill would require a study on who is receiving the money broken down among a few demographics, including race, veteran status and risk of domestic violence.

Additionally, the bill sunsets in January 2026.

The $1,000 payments can be used at recipients’ discretion, but supporters say it will be used toward rent and other living expenses.

Why would a recipient spend it on rent an living expenses...thereby making them NOT homeless. Ergo, not homeless, no free money, QED.

When anything says “the state of Oregon” what it really means are the degenerate commies in Portland, Salem, Eugene and the NIMBY ‘Karens’ in Ashalnd.

Between Oregon and Iran, I will root for Iran.

Lot of that on Free Republic these days. You've got people rooting both for a Nazi and a KGB communist dictator.

People have seem to have forgotten sometimes both sides in a conflict are not the right choice.

These funds should be contingent on something! Either clean drug tests to receive the money or can only be spent on food and housing. Everyone knows where most of the money would go for and that’s drugs. So lets let the taxpayers fund these people’s drug habits. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

Maybe the money would be better spent on more homeless shelters and food banks. The shelters will be places that drugs can be more easily controlled. Or maybe if you want the money, participate in a drug program.

Supporters say it will be used for rent and food. Recipients are already lining up at their weed and heroin dealers.

Good point, thanks. But such statements are expressions of hopelessness and loss of control that many feel about this world.

That will just attract more bums into their state, creating an even bigger problem. They’ll then respond by upping the payments to $2,000 thinking that will cure the problem. It’s sort of like feeding the 2 squirrels who live in the tree in your yard, pretty soon you have dozens of squirrels.

Not that it matters but she’s actually my wife’s sister.

However the reason it was my problem more than my wife’s, although my wife backed me 100%, was that she had focused on me and was making threats to go to the police and say I was stalking her and threatening to assault her and things of that nature. This is a small town and likely I would be expected to prove I wasn’t doing it as opposed to her proving that I was.
There’s a longer story as to what set her off but it started out with her leaving her blind mother who was visiting her from out of town alone, going out getting shit faced and totaling her car and subsequently getting put in jail. We didn’t even know her mother was alone until the idiot called us from jail wanting us to bail her out. So we had to go over there and rescue her mother. When she was bailed out of jail I called her stupid. And from that point she became fixated on me.

How does one 'qualify' for this handout?

If one is "homeless", where is the check or plastic card sent? Do you just have to show up at a social services office and claim to be 'homeless' in Oregon to qualify?

Any ID requirements? (probably not because that would be "racist")

I am just trying to see if its feasible to claim this with no ID or SS# for anyone who wants $1000 a month.

I am on the east coast, so a monthly trip to Oregon would be out of the question, but if they rolled this out in NY or even in my current home state of NJ, it may be worth applying if the ID requirements are as lax as they are for voting.

States used to complain they were magnets for welfare giveaways as people from other states came to them to grab the goodies.💰💰

Won’t Oregon be the same now? How long do they have to be in the state to get money? And if they’re allegedly homeless, to which address does the money go? 💰💰
