A movement to have eastern Oregon be absorbed by more conservative Idaho is gaining traction as citizens are fed up with progressive laws.
The idea to relocate the border apparently has support from leaders in both states, Fox News reported Monday.
In a recent op-ed, former Oregon House Speaker Mark Simmons shared support for the Greater Idaho Movement, the idea to incorporate approximately 13 Oregon counties inside the borders of Idaho.
An image shows how Idaho would expand if the effort comes to fruition:

Is it even possible let alone probable legally, constitutionally etc.
Idaho needs those counties to offset the lib influx into the Boise area.
Just because it has gained ‘traction’ or popularity, it doesn’t really explain how the process would be possible. It’s not like you can send a letter to the governor and announce you are succeeding. There is no way the State would ever allow this.
Yes, it is legal and constitutional. Both states involved and congress need to agree to it, though. IMHO, it’s unlikely that Oregon Libs would agree to it, as it would cut into their power and pride.
Yah, I haven’t seen the legal pathway for this. Not saying it doesn’t exist, but I have yet to see the legal pathway by which this can happen.
Result: rural counties get screwed.
This issue is governed by the US Constitution (Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1). The relevant text is:
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; not shall any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
Thus, for counties in eastern Oregon to secede from Oregon and become part of Idaho would require a law passed by Congress and signed by the President (or passed over the President’s veto) and require the consent of the state legislatures of both Oregon and Idaho. I doubt the Oregon legislature in it’s current make-up would agree.
There are three cases in US history where new states were formed out of territory that was claimed by an existing state. In all three cases the required constitutional process was observed.
New York originally claimed the territory of Vermont. After New York gave up its claim, the US Congress admitted Vermont into the Union.
Massachusetts originally claimed the territory of Maine. Eventually Massachusetts gave up its claim and the US Congress admitted Maine into the Union.
At the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861, Virginia seceded from the Union. Upon that act, 38 counties in the northwestern part of Virginia sought to secede from Virginia since they wanted to remain in the Union. The legislature of Virginia almost immediately gave its consent and in 1863 West Virginia was admitted into the Union.
So, Oregonians want to become part of their own private Idaho? :P
Well, this should give Oregon exactly what they want, a pure
chance to fall in on themselves in destruction.
R U U U U U N !
I am two weeks from moving out of Oregon. There is no way the liberals will give up control. Control is what they want. If you disagree with them they hate you. Good luck with this but I am not waiting around.
and congress need to agree to it,

Well if there are statutes that give Congress a say in the matter they’re unconstitutional and ought to be repealed tout suite!
Kentucky and West Virginia were once part of the Virginia Colony.
Upon my retirement 2 years ago, my wife and I moved from the Willamette valley to Oklahoma to be near my Daughter and Granddaughter. We were done.
About where in OK?
Was lookin’ around Poteau, but...
And how’s the Property Tax?
Lots of folks bolted for TX only to discover too late that TX Property Tax lands Texas a spot on the list of the TEN WORST STATES TO RETIRE TO.
I just sent you an PM.
I can remember clear back to the 70s when the flower-power
idiots were moving up there from the LA and SF areas. Sad
to see such beautiful land become occupied territory.

There actually are several colonies whose charters granted essentially all land westward to the Pacific Ocean, at least in theory. In reality claims ended at the Mississippi River. Virginia was one of these; the claim to Kentucky arose from this source. In addition Virginia also laid claim to much of southern Ohio and southwestern Pennsylvania. In similarly fashion Tennessee was claimed by North Carolina. Connecticut had a similar charter, but this was complicated by the fact that the land immediately to the west was a Dutch colony, New Amsterdam , now New York. The claim simply skipped the Dutch territory and Connecticut claimed the northern third of Pennsylvania and much of northern Ohio.
