UN chief slams ‘climate-wrecking’ firms at human rights body

GENEVA (AP) — U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday stressed the importance of legal challenges against “climate-wrecking corporations” like fossil-fuel producers, ratcheting up his call for the fight against climate change—- this time before the U.N.’s top human rights body.

Guterres has previously said that fossil-fuel producers need to be held to account, but pressing the issue before the U.N.’s top human rights body — made up of 47 member countries, plus scores of observer states — raises the stakes.

Nearly half the world’s population — 3.5 billion people — live in “climate hot spots” that are “fast becoming human rights disaster zones where floods, droughts and storms mean people are 15 times more likely to die of climate impacts,” he said.

Then, he emphasized the role of the International Court of Justice, the U.N.’s main judicial body, to improve accountability for the most serious crimes — and said he welcomed moves toward accountability for human rights abuses “including those committed by the private sector.”

“Legal challenges against climate-wrecking corporations are an important step forward,” Guterres said.

“Fossil fuel producers and their financial backers need to understand a crucial truth: pursuing mega-profits when so many people are losing their lives and rights, today and tomorrow, is completely unacceptable,” he added.

The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA needs to cut off this third world boyz allowance. Maybe when he doesn’t have any money he’ll learn to keep his big mouth shut and stop trashing the American people.

The UN is a useless cold war dinosaur. We really don’t need it anymore. It was never intended to become the rubber chicken it has become used to beat the American people over the head with.

I used to live in a “climate hot spot”...Miami.

We had hurricanes every hurricane season. Some days it got so hot we had to sit by the pool and drink margaritas. Some girls got so hot they had to strip down to bikinis.

It was awful.

Let’s start with the obvious. Of those 3.5 billion people, how many do not have access to clean water, good sanitary conditions, and are poverty stricken with high rates of crime and government tyranny?

Once we have that number, we can then fix all of this. First by getting rid of the dictators, then by building desalination facilities and pumping clean water to communities, with that planting of crops so new economies can be created and finally better sanitary conditions.

Then go from there.

““climate-wrecking corporations”

Translation: corporations that aren’t giving kickbacks, or not enough to the climate change scam.

Kindly suggest that he Gutierrez place his anger not on the oil producing businesses - but on those millions of people worldwide shamelessly and selfishly using gas and oil each day.

Yes, lecture us all on how evil we are for driving to work, soccer practice, church, or (gasp!) just for the fun of it. And tell those selfish people how guilty they should feel for using oil to heat their homes. Monsters! Everyone should be wearing helmets with a pinwheel and battery pack to power their selfish (and racist) demand for energy!
