Angela Davis was shocked to learn that her ancestors came to America on the Mayflower, making her descendants of people who helped found the country.
The civil rights activist learned about this news during the Feb. 21 episode of PBS’s Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Gates shows her a manifest of names, eventually revealing that the document had the names of the Mayflower passengers.

“No, I can’t believe this,” she said, laughing through her surprise. “My ancestors did not come here on the Mayflower.”
When asked how she felt about the news, Davis said, “…That’s a little bit too much to deal with right now.”

Oh, the horror!!!
Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery.
.
Anybody here at FR remember the “beer summit”?
so did one of mine. John Howland. A few million others in the USA can say the same.

Yup.
/ me too.
—yep—likewise-—and to my utter disgust, I am also related to the Roosevelts and one Barak Obama—
Oh no! Angela Davis is my cousin? Gee! Who would have guessed?
Do you have a Salem witch or two in your ancestors? My bet is that you do.
And a significant number of them are descendants of slave owners. Black and white.
Her reaction after discovering slave owner ancestors was delicious.
From those stats, she is more likely related to people that sold slaves.
Do you have a Salem witch or two in your ancestors? My bet is that you do.

Good memory.
As I have stated here before, mine was the “ wrong” mistaken Parker that was executed.
So....... no reparations for Angela.
She already got white genes
Vivica Fox.
Poor Angela, she’s White and didn’t know it!!
I traced my ancestry back to the 1100’s and found that Elizabeth Woodville (The White Queen) was one of my ancestors. For real. That was so interesting because my family came over from France, Ireland and Scotland back in the early 1800’s. Tracing your ancestry is a lot of fun.
My 6th GGF had many slaves but his Grandson (my 4th great Uncle) sold much of his inherited land to freed slaves for a pittance of its value. He was the first in the area to sell land to them and in honor of him, they named the area their Church was built on after the family. In fact, one of the women had a document drawn up (I don’t know for sure but suspect she was very ill) that should she pass, her minor children should not be “bound” to anyone but my 4th great Uncle. You’ll never find that narrative being taught in the government schools.
Hello cousin. Elizabeth Woodville is my 17th great grandmother.
Quite a few millions. The first male Pollard showed up in what’s now Boston in 1630 and within a couple of generations, moved South to the Plymouth area and married into the Pilgrim clan on more than one occasion/generation so we have 12 lines back to the Mayflower passengers via marriage - female genetic lines.
For those unfamiliar with the case, SHE bought the guns to use in this Marin County Court breakout!

The FBI had her nailed but then they screwed up the case and she walked.
A Communist dairy farmer in California posted bail for her. LIFE magazine carried a big spread about him at the time. when he received death threats he bought himself an AR-15 for protection. Page 73 “Parting Shots” of this issue with Brando on the cover.
