Moldova’s president outlined Monday what she described as a plot by Moscow to overthrow her country’s government using external saboteurs, put the nation “at the disposal of Russia” and derail its aspirations to one day join the European Union.
President Maia Sandu’s briefing comes a week after neighboring Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country had intercepted plans by Russian secret services to destroy Moldova, claims that were later confirmed by Moldovan intelligence officials.
“The plan for the next period involves actions with the involvement of diversionists with military training, camouflaged in civilian clothes, who will undertake violent actions, attack some state buildings, and even take hostages,” Sandu told reporters at a briefing.

Moldova is part of Romania. They’ll be better off if the Romanians move in and take over. Let Transnistria return to Russia.

The problem is that Moldovans prefer to stay independent by a large margin. The leader in question has an approval rating in single digits and faces massive protests over living costs.
Like all liberals, Maia Sandu has mismanaged Moldova’s economy to the point of collapse and now is choosing to blame Putin.
Much like how the U.S. is currently plotting to overthrow Orban.

Moldova is part of Romania.
Since Romania was a part of the Axis powers, the USSR decided to ‘reincorporate’ it—something the USSR was in the habit of doing—see Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, etc. After the breakup of the USSR Moldova became independent.
If Moldova were to reunite with Romania that would mean that Moldovan territory would be a part of NATO which could open up a whole new can of worms for everybody. Whole lot of ugly history in that part of the world and apparently that history has not been forgotten.

IIRC, most of what is now Romania was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire prior to WWI.

The Buildup To War In Ukraine - February 14 2022
February 14 2022 was a relative quiet day. The U.S. knew that the Ukraine would soon launch a large attack on the renegade Dontezk and Luhansk republics. To protect the Russian people living there the Russian Federation would have to invade Ukraine. The White Hose continued to warn of a upcoming 'Russian invasion' that the upcoming Ukrainian actions would provoke.
Exactly. The government should invite in Romanian “peacekeepers” immediately and sort it out later. Anything to keep Putin’s hands off of more of the country.
The Little Green Men thing again. Moldova would be wise to quickly reunite with Romania and enjoy immediate protection by NATO. This was Turkey won’t get a veto on their membership.
