IIRC, most of what is now Romania was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire prior to WWI.
Maybe about half. During WWI Romania was shaped like a backward bubble letter L.
The thing I find fascinating is the fact that while nearly all issues regarding WWII have been settled, WWI and its issues are still biting us in the rear end today.
