China claims right to ‘respond further’ after US shoots down spy balloon: report
NY Post ^ | 2-4-23 | Katherine Donlevy

The Chinese government said Saturday that President Biden’s decision to shoot down the spy balloon that crossed America was an “excessive reaction” and that it “retains the right to respond further.”

China claims that its balloon was a “civilian airship” and not the spy device the US claimed it to be, and said that the US’s decision to destroy its property “seriously violates international convention,” according to a statement obtained by The New York Times.

“In these circumstances, for the United States to insist on using armed force is clearly an excessive reaction that seriously violates international convention,” the statement said. “China will resolutely defend the legitimate rights and interests of the enterprise involved, and retains the right to respond further.”

Fly SR-71s over them instead.

Okay, aside from isotope sniffing in the atmosphere they have satellites that can do everything this could have.
We spy on china every day, and they spy on us, it’s the nature of intelligence agencies to do just that. This is no difference than when we flew our SR71s over Russia and every other communist country, now it happened to be our turn in the barrel and everyone is all upset when they do it to us.
China sent the balloon as a test, what little intel they gained from it from LIDAR or radioscopy they also gave us a lot of insight as well. We were studying that balloon as closely as they were looking at us with it. They of course knew we would shoot it down, how long we waited, how we responded publicly when it made the news, they gleaned far more from our own newscasts than the damn thing gave them probably.
China is all about gauging social response and how Americans at home react to world events, a big part of their intelligence gathering community was ecstatic when this was put on the headline of Drudge.
Everyone is upset mostly because they think this is a provocative occurrence on their part, most would poop their pants if they knew what was going on and kept secret from them if this balloon was scary to them now.

FYI: The warhead on the US Sidewinder missile did NOT detonate when it impacted the Chinese War Balloon. It could be because the target was too soft to cause the missile’s impact fuse to work, and maybe its proximity fuse could not “see” the thin floating balloon enough, that it was unable to reflect enough of a signal to “read” its proximity. But more likely? I believe the US Air Force removed the explosive warhead from the missile, so they were basically firing a supersonic dart at the balloon, so as to take no chances of damaging the technological apparatus it was carrying!

Correct. If the object posed a threat so serious as to require its downing by our military, it should have been taken out immediately. Not buying the ‘But what about civilians being killed by falling debris?” line. Leaves one to wonder what would be done if a Chinese bomber suddenly entered our airspace. Would we worry about possible collateral damage on the ground, or destroy it?

“Don’t they have spy satellites?”

>>>>>>>>

The thing is... that balloon was test. China now knows they can send balloons equipped with EMP bombs, or chemical and biological weapons and disperse it anywhere they want in America.

Don’t ask.

Chinese in the past were called “inscrutable.” Now Chicoms are just sneaky, arrogant, lying scumbags. Pardon the putdowns, you guys.

When the Japanese sent diplomats to lie to the US officials as a cover ploy as the Japanese planes were being launched to bomb Pearl Harbor it was noted as one of the most deplorable deceptions in diplomacy history.

Chinese Communists should never be trusted.

By the way, remember the other Japanese fire balloon project against American citizens?

https://www.history.com/news/attack-of-japans-killer-wwii-balloons-70-years-ago

A huge explosion rocked the placid mountainside. Elsie, the unborn baby and the five children were killed almost instantly by the blast. When a forest ranger in the vicinity came upon the scene, he found the victims radiating out like spokes around a smoldering crater and the 26-year-old minister beating his wife’s burning dress with his bare hands.

What U.S. military investigators sent to the blast scene immediately knew—but didn’t want anyone else to know—was that the strange contraption was a high-altitude balloon bomb launched by Japan to attack North America. After American aircraft bombed Tokyo and other Japanese cities during the Doolittle Raid of 1942, the Japanese military command wanted to retaliate in kind but its manned aircraft were incapable of reaching the West Coast of the United States. What the Japanese military lacked in technology, however, it made up for in geography.

What’s the matter? Does “the enterprise involved” not have access to international phones, or contacts in the U.S. to give them a heads-up?

Since there is no private ownership in China, and the CCCP effectively owns everything, would “the enterprise involved” be them?
