The Federal Aviation Administration has closed airspace in parts of North Carolina and South Carolina. All operations at Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Wilmington airports have been paused for national security initiatives.
The alerts are in effect until 2:45 p.m.
The balloon was spotted Saturday over parts of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Northern Greenville county in South Carolina.

I haven’t heard anything today about the one spotted over Latin America.
It could be as massive as it wants! as long as it’s mass per unit volume is less than that of the surrounding atmospheric air.
Balloons are our density!
I read that too I don’t know if it’s true But it could be if it is That china is mapping out of route for a land invasion
So now, we might shoot it down in the Carolina’s when we were told it would leave too big of debris field in Montana??
Come now, BB.
This party favor should have been shot down over the Aluetian Islands where we detected it initially.
With the border being open it could be that an army is already here. Could be that joe Biden had what Arizona put up a wall of shipping containers and he forced them to take it down perhaps the Chinese army doesn’t want anything that could impede their invasion
The government knows damn well what's going on. More than likely they are orchestrating it.
My guess... after they get everybody's attention, and the CHINESE have achieved their goal, it will be SHOT DOWN well after the fact of the benefit that it served BOTH the Chinese and DIP$HIT Biden and his gang.
Can’t shoot it down while that kid is still in it
They describe the balloon-y part as being the size of three buses.
Could be with the millions of people who have freely crossed our borders in our here now there’s already an army here
Good writeup. Thanks.
The balloons that I was familiar with in the early ‘60s were zero-pressure ones. The smaller instrument package was flown on about a million cubic foot balloon, and the bigger one on maybe a 2 or 3 million cubic foot one. The bigger package was a few hundred pounds.
This was for scientific research, but I’m sure that all the infrastructure came from the late ‘50s spy program. We didn’t use them, but IIRC, there were some nifty large lens, large format surplus cameras in the lab.
What if this was a nuclear armed bomber? How does this demented MF know it’s not?
Wow! it looks deserted. No planes over that area. I see a USAF (no call sign) from Tampa flying towards SC.
“Shoot it down. Straight forward problem. Straight forward simple solution.”
It’s a little late. It’s at the coast and already did it’s work and transmitted it home. But maybe we can steal some of their tech by deflating the balloon and picking up the equipment. We probably need their tech since we mainly worry about pronouns and where to fly or not fly which flag these days.
It’s almost over the ocean now.
Damn thing is still floating around within camera range in South Carolina.

A reliable *.mil pilot source just told me you could see the TFRs in Foreflight. This about 15m ago.
I kind of doubt that shipping containers would impede them if they were to actually attempt a ‘land invasion’ :-)
