An organizational meeting of the House Judiciary Committee turned into a bitter debate over a proposed amendment to committee rules that would require the recitation of the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of committee meetings, allowing members to bring in constituents to lead it if they wish.
The amendment, put forth by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., was met with a challenge and another amendment by Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., who said anyone who supported an insurrection against the United States should be barred from leading the pledge. ..
Several Republicans were dismayed that the matter was being debated at all....

Pretty much everyone in government questions the loyalty of everyone in government. Some folks may not be loyal enough to America, and others may not be loyal enough to “our democracy”. The two camps are at an impasse.

Furthermore,,they would figure out that the word “Republic” is in the Pledge, not democrat. Why people refer to our form of government as a democracy is beyond me. Even the Republicans failed high school civics.
We are a representative democracy. Republic tells us that we are not a Monarchy.

Cicciline shouldn’t even be in Congress. Rhode Island was supposed to lose one of its two congressthings after the 2020 Census due to population loss but like a lot of things being done by federal bureaucrats lately, the numbers were “adjusted” so that RI and several other Dem states magically had just enough people to maintain the size of their House delegations; this robbed the Rs of a good 5-7 House seats nationwide, including that of RI, which would have gone to Texas, Florida and Tennessee.
Here’s an idea...the Maoists on the Committee can just kneel while the Pledge is being recited.

Personally, the “one nation” bit has always rankled me.

Consenting to one sections of an oath, such as “republic” or “under God,” does not justify the swearing of another; it makes me a liar and an oathbreaker. The failure of others to understand my reasoning has no bearing on my decision.
Why didn’t they vote on it? The committee majority is Republican.
