Pretty much everyone in government questions the loyalty of everyone in government. Some folks may not be loyal enough to America, and others may not be loyal enough to “our democracy”. The two camps are at an impasse.

Personally, the “one nation” bit has always rankled me.
How can a republic derive just powers without the consent of the governed? Consenting to one sections of an oath, such as “republic” or “under God,” does not justify the swearing of another; it makes me a liar and an oathbreaker. The failure of others to understand my reasoning has no bearing on my decision.
Why didn’t they vote on it? The committee majority is Republican.
