We don't have enough tanks to send to Ukraine, Pentagon admits: Biden's promise to send 31 Abrams could take up to a YEAR - because the US has to buy more

Bullcrap. Tanks sitting around the US are essentially warehoused other than those used for training. Since we are not going to invade MARXIST ruled Canada or drug cartels run Mexico, we are left with thousands of do nothing hunks of metal. Excepting those being sent to our allies for training and combat use in Syria, or perhaps Israel, or as replacements for their tanks being sent to Ukraine, the rest are just resting and possibly rusting.

I’ve seen the figure of 4,000 tanks being in our continental inventory. If true, I suspect this might include any medium light tanks,, maybe Bradley fighting vehicles, etc. Not doing anything to defend the border where some could be used ASAP.

Bullcrap.

Seriously. We have thousands of tanks according to multiple sources. Russia has (or had) maybe close to 10,000 according to some estimates. This whole discussion about 30 tanks is a token measure, if it ever even happens.

We’ll get a letter from Zelensky....Hey Joe...You promised...In lieu of the tanks, just send the money then and we’ll buy some from Afghanistan.

And yet we now have new tank transporters in Europe to move Abrams tanks that we can’t give Ukraine.

“have these tanks available in excess in our U.S. stocks”

This is not the problem.
M1’s have Armor kits that are top secret
as far as material make up. It’s going
to take a year to redesign an armor kit
that will not divulge proprietary US
technologies.
These tanks were not used in Afganistan,
as their use there would have been limited.
So the Taliban have none in their posession.

Over 10,000 M-1 Abrams have been produced and are still in production. It takes three months to train a tank crew. As much as I favor Ukraine, the Daily Mail's reporting is fishwrap.

With Bakhmut, the linchpin of Donbass defense, on the verge of liberation, which is even being reported by Leftist (i.e., pro-Ukraine) sources, it’s hard to see how much good the M1 tanks will be for them, if they have to wait a year.

“They don’t export the version we use with better armor.
So instead of degrading tanks from our stock and shipping them they will hire more people and turn out more M1s from the one factory we build them in.”

I think that’s the real problem - they know that some of the M1’s will be captured by (or sold to) Russia, so they want to be damn sure that they don’t have our top-of-the-line capabilities (armor and electronics), and there is simply no easy way to ‘remove’ this capability (especially the armor), so they need a new production run.

That’s because the Abrams was recently upgraded to a newly updated model. The last model is now phased out except for exports. The new model is now in production ANYWAY.

BUY more?

Not “make” more?

From whom are they buying them?
