Harley-Davidson Will Go All-Electric, Says CEO
Jalopnik ^ | 2023-01-18 | José Rodríguez Jr.

Harley-Davidson is planning to phase out motorcycles powered by its storied internal combustion engines, and will slowly but surely transform into an all-electric brand. Harley CEO Jochen Zeitz tells Dezeen that after 120 years of being famous for its big gas-powered models, electrification is the logical next step. That is, if the company plans on sticking around for another 120 years.

Harley-Davidson’s EV transition “needs to happen,” according to its CEO, and not just on a small scale with a brand like LiveWire. No, we’re talking H-D dealers selling EVs exclusively, although it isn’t going to happen overnight.

"...BUY a Harley now they are going to be worth a fortune!!"

Good idea!

Buy some before the name changes to Harley Davos.

Yeah, a Harley that sounds like a trolling motor...that’s the ticket.

They can do what Dodge did with the EV Hellcat and put a cool recording that will play when you rev the engine motor.

They might even put a vibrator in the seat so biker chicks will want to ride it too.

ACtually, the Calicommie law is - 35% of all new vehicle sales must be EV by 2025, then 100% must be EV’s by 2035. How that passes state and federal constitutional muster, I don’t know

“I didn’t notice texting at that moment. That tidbit came out after the fact.”

Texters usually exhibit control problems that are obvious. When I see those signs I give extra attention and space.

I think the Yamaha XT250 weighs in at 290 pounds. Btw, I've had shovelheads, panheads, a 1941 Harley ULH 80" flathead side valve, Triumph T-120 Bonneville's etc...But now I like to slow down and and see the sights with a little dual sport, and what's great, is I can go off road whenever I feel like it!

Btw, I can see the trends as the retired/older motorcycle folks are snatching these up as fast as they come available, new or used. It took me a month to find one and had to drive 180 miles to pick it up.

I love my electric chainsaw
I use it to cut large wood to small wood for my bbq smokers.
I use vegetable oil as chain oil so I don’t get petroleum oil in my smoke.

“E-bikes”

Thinking about E-race cars, maybe their tremendous acceleration would make the races interesting even without the sound.

I also remember going to a NASCAR race. Nice, but the noise level made conversation difficult. That’s what I remember.

However, looking at restaurants full of TV screens and the customers using their phones, maybe people don’t like to converse anymore.

Before everyone goes off half-cocked, the company is saying over the DECADES to come.

What's the point of commenting on an internet forum if you actually read past the banner headline? /sarc

I'm going to go against the CW around here and say it's a smart move to look at what the 40+ year old guy of 2040 is going to want in a new high-end motorcycle.

Are there going to be people who want that big rumble down the highway? Sure, probably always will be some folks who equate that motorcycle growl with freedom and the open road. Is the best market that market come 2040? Maybe not. Maybe by that point, the guys who can drop the 2040 dollars equivalent of 30K on a bike want something that will be silent and fast and mostly self-driving so they can naruto run down the highway.

“ Maybe then I won’t have to hear their stupid, loud pipes. Why that is not considered noise pollution is beyond me. What if I cut off the muffler on my truck? Flame away.”

That’s actually a safety thing.
Motorcycles are harder to see and too many accidents happen because drivers don’t see them.
The noise helps let a driver know they are there.
