Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin told Ford to take its plan to build a massive, 2,500-job EV battery plant in the state and shove it, all because Ford’s partner in the project is a Chinese battery manufacturer—the largest such manufacturer in the world.

"It’s not clear what will happen to the site, or the millions of dollars Ford already invested in preparing Berry Hill for a battery plant."

Duh, you are partnering with Solid Power for their Solid State battery, they want to monetize it, ok go with your Korean Partner in VA, let them build it, win/win. You want a higher performance Battery for Lincolns? Get a like arrangement for QuantumScape Batteries at this location.

Duh...

Does the author wash his lips after this sort of CCP butt kissing?
Good on Youngkin, whatever his actual motivation.

time to stop globalizing with the freaking ChiComs

Why would our politicians want to do that? It's way too profitable for their kids and ne'er-do-well in-laws.

And, what China doesn’t control, Russia does.

70% of Chinese Lithium batteries are made in Uighur Muslim concentration camps. And, the Cobalt comes from child slave miners in Africa.

The ChiComs have some definite strengths.
Controlling Muslims is one of them.

That translates into a roughly $30 Billion Economic Impact for the state. Let them build the plant and when not goes bust it goes and it will in time.

No one is mining anything in Afghanistan and will not be for years. Given the terrain it will take a Multi-Billion Dollar Infrastructure Investment before any mining could even start and you’re talking about a minimum of 10 years to do it, probably more.

There isn’t enough rare earth minerals to move over to EV’s, and there never was. The process is very toxic.

And the Lithium Triangle in South America, in the last month a 700 million dollar deal, no one on our side has said a word

We were probably trying to find the right transgender-minority owned company with a high ESG score to invest and China came in and swept it up.

I see a future market for retrofitting EVs with ICE powertrains.

Cap...

many are working on a system that defies description, it's like putting it in a gel and they are geared for a specific rare earth with high extraction rates. Another source, stagnant H20 run off ponds from Coal Mining. Fascinating technology, ready for prime time(?), that's the question.

What are our Presidents and Governors going to do when enitties owned by Communist China citizens simply buy out an American-owned business company and employees that they have made unprofitable by marketing cheap product substitutes that our own citizens buy massively that puts themselves out of work? And ruin our attempts to educate a responsible, moral citzenry?

"Duh, you are partnering with Solid Power for their Solid State battery, they want to monetize it, ok go with your Korean Partner in VA, let them build it, win/win"

Right. The Kentucky plant is expressly an South Korea partnership, not sure why Ford simply did not sublimate the Chinese contract into the monster that is BlueOvalSK, given that the run-up time is BOSK is a year ahead and was already scaled for potential overcapacity (24/7) production.

It will be interesting to see if the CCP make overtures to Roy Cooper one state south. Ford is hardly an "American" company in many ways, including their 1/3 stake in Jiangling Motors, and their CCP-compelled co-ownership of Changan Ford.

Forcing EVs on the consuming public is going to be a economic disaster of epic porportions.

Dealers will be giving EVs away. They wll have BOGO sales on them . Meanwhile ever new ICE vehicle will have HUGE surcharge on them. Used ICE vehicles wil be at a premium.

I hope so.
I can see an EV as a local errand runner.
My 4th vehicle.
Hope to buy at pennies on the dollar some time in the future.
