FOX News personality Geraldo Rivera backed President Biden’s push for an “assault weapons” ban and said that the “AR” in AR-15 stands for “automatic rifle” on Tuesday’s The Five.
Newsweek quoted Rivera telling the co-hosts, “I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, there is no legitimate reason … to have an AR-15.”
He described the AR-15 as a “machine gun” that people own in order to make them feel “macho.”

What an idiot he is
27 just loves to post crap like this...
The stupid is strong with Geraldo.
5.56mm
I heard this and wanted to tweet the show to get this moron off because he clearly is uninformed. It gets tiring to hear these people. He went on to say that you cannot hunt deer with an AR-15.
Armalite, not automatic.
Armalite Rifle. Named after the company formed back in 1954.
That is 69 years ago. And now they are a problem?

“AR-15-platform rifles are among the most popular firearms being sold. They are today’s modern sporting rifle.
The AR in “AR-15” rifle stands for ArmaLite, after the company that developed it in the 1950s. “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.”
AR-15 and other semi-automatic rifles are NOT “assault weapons” or “assault rifles.” An assault rifle is fully automatic — a machine gun. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.
True
I see he does research before opening his trap - ya right!
He comes across as relatively moderate. I don’t believe it for a second.
I used to watch his talk show and he was a radical, unfaltering leftist. Liberal is way to moderate a phrase to what he used to be. Suspicious he is faking moderate to get the big FOX salary.
THANK YOU! Even a lot of gun owners get that wrong...
;^)
I watched that episode and no one on the panel knew what “AR” meant. They really should do their homework on the subject they talk about.
AR stands for America’s Rifle...
Armalite, but yes...
Does he also believe the sun and the moon are the same?
Geraldo Rivera, like so many Leftists, works in the Propaganda Media because it’s the only job he’s qualified for since it only requires a lack of brains and absence of conscience.
The originals, back in the '50s and early '60s, were select fire. The semi-only versions were developed later for sale to citizens who didn't want all the BATF fuss about machine guns. Back then, a Colt AR-15 sold for around $300 ... the $200 transfer tax was a significat fraction of the purchase price.
I kept waiting for someone to answer, but no one did.
Whorealdo is so disgustingly stupid
and foppish.
Drop the mini into a butler creek folder.
Compare to a wood stock Mini 14 and ask the question again!
Armalite, but yes...
I think Eugene Stoner would agree with me.
I had an original AR-7 that I inherited from my dad, so that was my first AR.
