Trump Dismisses COVID-19 Vax Safety Claims, Says He Saved 100 Million Lives
Newsweek ^ | 16 Jan 2023 | AILA SLISCO

Former President Donald Trump has dismissed claims that COVID-19 vaccines are broadly unsafe while asserting that his own role in the development of the vaccines may have saved 100 million lives.

Trump touted the effectiveness of Operation Warp Speed, his administration's program to accelerate the development of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics, during a Monday interview on the conservative podcast The Water Cooler.

Host David Brody asked the former president if he would "acknowledge" that the vaccines "were not as safe or effective as we were told....

"I was able to get something approved that, you know, that has proven to have saved a lot of lives," Trump said, ignoring Brody's request to weigh in on the anti-vaccine narrative. "Some people say that I saved 100 million lives worldwide."

Trump touted the speed of vaccine development under his program, saying that he was "able to get [the vaccines] done in nine months...."

..."You have to understand, there are the pros and cons," said Trump. "Some reports [say] that it's the greatest thing that's ever happened and we saved tens of millions of lives. Then you'll read other reports [that] say there were some problems with the vaccine...but relatively small numbers....

It’s not enough to read the EO, you have to read required reports. It was initially Collins, who did not want to be the face of COVID and delegated it to Fauci, but he was still in charge.

Ill be honest I truly don’t know why Trump is continuing with this vaccine nonsense. Because at this point if you don’t know that these vaccines are unsafe and totally ineffective maybe you need to get the shot and be removed from the gene pool.

I have heard that what the cabal had planned for us was 10 years of lock downs while they destroyed the world’s economy and enslaved us all killing off half the population in the process. So maybe Trump knows something he will reveal to us in the future. Who knows. I’m going to stick with him because basically there isn’t anybody else who can get us to the promised land.

I have no problem with him being proud of getting the vaccine.

To some degree but so did Ross Perot’s wishy washy run (As he was in and then out and then back in) as enough voters voted for him which undermined Bush.

The whole COVID/Vax thing was really a no-win for Trump, no matter what he did, half the country was going to pissed off at him.

That’s why COVID was like “Manna From Heaven” for the Democrats and Never Trumpers.

Sorry. As much as one loves POTUS DJT, this turns out to be his tragic flaw. He got totally snookered by a maniacal little runt and a scheming scarf bitch.

Bad personnel decisions (i.e. not firing the little bastard the moment they stepped off the stage at the press conference where he denigrated the use of hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin and undermined Trump's initiative as POTUS, at which point his toady the scarf bitch should have been gone too - from our POV today, in hindsight) have had tragic consequences.

Trump needs to find a solution to this, if it isn't already too late.

Yep. his ego will not allow him to take responsibility for a bad decision (of which he made a few really terrible ones) and that is disqualifying IMO

I'm in the demographic you reference, very much so.

I'm non-GMO. I've had the COVID twice. First time was horrible, NOT just the ordinary flu. Second time was about a third as bad as the first.

I'm still here.

Just speaking for myself, mind you.

As much as I love The Donald, he is out of touch on this topic and should keep his mouth shut.

I cannot count how many times I've said the same lately - from McCarthy, to his lousy picks to the vaxx etc.etc.

Maybe he's just out of touch... period. And should just keep his mouth shut... period.

What would things be like if those shots had gone through the normal process? They might have never made it to market. Myocarditis might not be a household word. Therapeutics would have been at the forefront. Censorship would be in the backseat. People would not have lost jobs over it. Military would be stronger. Democrats wouldn’t have weaponized it against the people.

Looks like quite some form of hell to me.

No, I don't know that. Neither does Trump. He's just blowing smoke.

Some people say the Earth is flat ...

Well no, of course there isn't. Just look at the uh, diversity of opinion on just this thread and that's here at FR where one would expect people to at least take notice of highly-conditioned athletes falling over dead with increasing regularity, like the young cadet at the Air Force Academy. But no...

As much as one hates to say it especially after Trump being robbed the way he was in 2020, maybe there ain't a way for him to fix it except to support someone else who will.

Yes, I know, fat chance of that with Trump's ego. He's human just like us all, sometimes especially so.

He did increase the speed of approval, but they put out a toxic product, not his fault, they planned it this way.

The buck stops ... where?

Trump owns this mess. No creepy mRNA injections ==> no creepy mRNA injection mandates.

“... So they rush a vaccine, novel, no long-term testing. That’s risk two. ...”

A complex technical development has inherent risks. A complex technical development ‘speeded up’ has exponentially increased risks even if done for the best of reasons. At best the risks were poorly communicated if not ignored in the interests pushing mass vaccination. I’ve said this before I think Trump was ‘conned’ into ignoring the risks. Maybe his ‘germ phobia’ played a part in him accepting the ‘con’. Project management is one of Trump’s forte but this type of ‘project’ is outside his experience base, he trusted the ‘experts’ too much. Particularly Fauci, there were ‘red flags’ about Fauci’s veracity from his public hyperventilating about AIDS. Trump or his staff did no research on who they were working with. Fauci never should have been allowed in front of a camera.

Like it or not the data will be coming out that the ‘speed up’ created a disaster. Claims of a million people saved will be thrown around because it makes one feel good and is great PR to justify the action, but it is completely unverifiable. One might call it a ‘noble lie (maybe not so noble!)’.

The bottom line is, it was not the Black Plague, or even the Great Influenza of 1918-1919. It’s also difficult to come up with a true assessment of its effect because the statistics are so bogus. From Red China, to Europe, to the US, almost all the numbers are all ‘cooked’ for various local political reasons.

Trump will be blamed! The Rat role forgotten. What could he have done differently? Hard to say; he was thrust into a “damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don’t” situation. What does he do now? Accept the fact he was ‘conned’, explain that given the information he had it was the best he could do. Also, I don’t think anyone else would have done much better. (With exception the criticisms of certain governors! That shouldn’t have been done.) It sounds a little humble for Trump, but in this situation a little humility is best. Try to avoid discussions of the subject and move on.

“will never-vaxers admit their errors?”

I think most critics of the mRNA vaccine have taken numerous vaccines in the past. They are not “anti-vaxers.”

The mRNA inoculation is not a traditional vaccine at all. It programs your body to create spike proteins. Perhaps it’s better described as gene therapy.
