White House turns talk of Medicare, Social Security cuts against GOP

The White House is turning the tables on House Republican lawmakers when it comes to conservative-led spending proposals that Democrats warn could mean cuts to crucial programs like Medicare and Social Security.

The Biden administration is already building on a strategy it deployed during the midterm election season in which it highlighted talk from multiple GOP congressional lawmakers about how they plan to use their new House majority to consider cuts to entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.

It’s also putting a spotlight on the possibility of military spending cuts by Republicans in an effort to balance federal spending and reduce the national debt.

The Biden administration has made clear they won’t go along with such proposals, framing Republicans as the party that wants to defund the military and threaten social welfare programs.

Chip Roy already said entitlements are not the on the table.

Reality is we all know they will need to be cut at some point, likely very soon.

Not this again, the elderly are going to have to eat cat food, not because of government cuts, but because of Bidenflation.

They always like to talk about cuts to Medicare and Social Security where people have actually paid in.

They never want to talk about cuts to Medicaid and welfare where the recipients have not paid anything.

And then there is the vast aid to the invading army from the south,

Social Security and Medicare form the single largest piece of federal expenditure, and second place isn’t close.

SS and Medicare also provide an income to the kitty....so calling it an expenditure just doesn’t hold. It’s not included in the budget.

Senator Lindsey Graham said: “I have military retirement, Congress pension plan, if you asked me to take a little less to save Social Security..count me in..”

“party that wants to defund the military and threaten social welfare programs”

It should be ... the party that wants to cut military fat and pork and eliminate social welfare programs.

Social Security reform is political death for Republicans. It can’t be discussed at all (by Republicans).

Back in the early 90s I believe, the Dems said they wanted to form a bipartisan commission on Soc.Sec. reform and asked Republicans to join. The moment Republicans agreed participate, Dems turned around and accused Republicans of wanting to cut everyone’s Social Security checks. Mouse trapped by the Dems.

Any statements made by Republicans about Soc.Security reform will be used against them in 2024, guaranteed.

Cutting Social Security means slashing our earned benefits. It should NEVER be an option.

"And yet he wants the taxpayers to pay for FREE healthcare to illegals."

We need to bill the country they come from.. And deduct that amount from the "foreign aid" we give then...

“ Reality is we all know they will need to be cut at some point, likely very soon.”

Why? There’s enough money for us to have hundreds of military bases around the word, pay most of the cost NATO - instead of Europe paying - and subsidize Zelensky’s public-sector pension in Ukraine. But there’s not rub money to help seniors in America?

This is just a ruse to justify continued budget increases.

Sorta like when states don’t get a tax increase they want and immediately reduce DMV service as if nothing else can be cut.
