Republicans have wanted for decades to cut, privatize, or otherwise destroy them, they have never been able to overcome the significant popular backlash to those cuts. That’s why they’ve hidden behind fast-tracked commissions, committees, and processes like the one Mitt Romney proposed in his TRUST Act. They want to cut Social Security behind closed doors, without Republican fingerprints.
Medicare should be privatized and supported by user premiums like any other health insurance. Medicaid should be ended.
Social Security also needs to stop. We could soften the blow by giving modest monthly checks to people over 70 or 75 who are truly unable to work. But even that should be funded from corporate sponsorship and voluntary contributions from taxpayers and sunsetted after 10 years or so.
We’re either going to enforce the Constitution or we’re not. We’ve let politicians to ignore it for more than 100 years. Enough!
