“framing Republicans as the party that wants to defund the military and threaten social welfare programs”

The fact is, if the Republicans want to be the party that doesn’t continue racking up debt, then the only option IS to cut military and entitlement funding. We’re way too far gone for any “casual” cuts to do any good.

So if Republicans aren’t ready to deal with such accusations, then they are not serious about cutting spending.

“SS and Medicare also provide an income to the kitty....so calling it an expenditure just doesn’t hold.”

No, they are a very large net expense.

The argument you are making is akin to saying “but I won $50 on the scratch offs last month” (when you spent $300 buying tickets).

To keep things in perspective, the current Social Security trust fund is approximately 3 Trillion dollars.

The Iraq war cost approximately 2 trillion dollars. The Iraq war did nothing of value to the American people was very destructive to both Americans and the people of Iraq. It destabilized the middle east.

How about less war for a change.

Didn’t take them long to accuse the evil Republicans of stealing granny’s social security check.

“Cutting Social Security means slashing our earned benefits. It should NEVER be an option.”

Then you’re just saying you prefer the option where everyone’s benefit gets cut completely to zero when the system collapses. Because that’s what’s going to inevitably happen if we aren’t allowed to do anything else.

“Why?”

The math isn’t that hard. Go look at the budget yourself and see. You can cut a thousand things that you think are “wasteful” and you won’t get anywhere close to finding the money to cover our unfunded entitlements.

Because ALL of the Government runs on Big $$$$$ interests’ bidding, the MOST obvious cut of Non-Citizen Benefits OF ANY KIND won’t be considered, nor will closing the Border (for the same interests).

I would be ok if they give back what I paid into it with interest.

Yea, cut something people care about and blame the GOP.
Do not cut any of the obvious waste elsewhere in the budget.

I think all guberment employees should take a 50% cut in salary. We don’t they don’t produce anything and are way overpaid.

Cost of military bases pales in comparison to entitlements.
