House Votes To Adjourn After McCarthy Makes Progress
Daily Caller ^ | January 06, 2023 3:47 PM ET | MICHAEL GINSBERG CONGRESSIONAL CORRESPONDENT

Posted on 01/06/2023 1:18:41 PM PST by Red Badger

The House of Representatives voted to adjourn until 10 p.m. Friday, shortly after Republican California Rep. Kevin McCarthy flipped the votes of 15 of his GOP detractors.

Republican leaders called for the vote, which passed along party lines, to give McCarthy supporters Ken Buck of Colorado and Wesley Hunt of Texas time to return to the Capitol. Buck was absent for the early votes due to a medical issue, while Hunt returned home following the birth of his son. (RELATED: Here’s Why 15 Republicans Flipped Their Support To Kevin McCarthy)

McCarthy peeled off 14 “no” votes on the twelfth ballot following intense negotiations on a rules package, which reportedly includes committee representation for conservative members and steep spending cuts. Republican Maryland Rep. Andy Harris, who has been angling for an Appropriations subcommittee chairmanship, flipped his vote on the thirteenth ballot.

The two unsuccessful votes on Friday pushed the 2023 ballot to the fifth-longest in American history, and longest since 1859.

More moderate members of the House Republican Conference have expressed concern about some provisions of the agreement.

“We don’t want to go back to sequestration. That would be very damaging to our military,” Texas Rep. Michael McCaul, the incoming chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told the Daily Caller. “You’ll see the House come out with a package and the Senate always does their own thing.”

Several McCarthy supporters are hoping to leave Washington, D.C., for the weekend, which could further complicate the Californian’s math.

McCarthy Makes Progress

Yeah, 'progress' as in 'progressivism'

GOPe is doing it the European Union way. Keep forcing a vote on various countries until they achieve the “correct” outcome.

Years ago they did this to the naughty Irish until they were able to finally get the voting results that pleased Brussels.

We've established they are mostly whores - now they are only quibbling over their price.

Funny that Jordan received 6 votes but Jordan himself voted for McCarthy. That is what I heard from the woman running the roll call, unless there is another republican by name Jordan.

At the risk of making myself look stupid, I am curious why all news and headlines are McCarthy doesn’t have enough votes to become Speaker. I don’t hear/see, “Jeffries doesn’t have enough votes to become speaker.” OR “neither has enough votes to become speaker.”

WHY NOT?

I am having a hard time finding the names of the 6 that didn’t vote for McCarthy, but saw a couple of posts on Twitter, so just saying:

You are the ONLY true HEROS in the @HouseGOP
.
@Jim_Jordan is such a disappointment. a big-tech shill who will bark on FoxNews daily and run investigations for optics with #McCarthy

January 6th will forever be known as a day when Patriots stood courageously in defiance of the uniparty swamp & said ‘Hell No’ to voting for a sellout Speaker

So proud of
@RepAndyBiggsAZ
@laurenboebert
@mattgaetz
@EliCrane_CEO
@RepBobGood
@RepRosendale

aka “The January 6”

Is there anyone in our government that Schwab and Soros don’t own?
When did all this happen, and why was nothing done to stop it?!

Nothing less than the takeover of our Republic. One-world government and the End Times are not far away.

We need to cut the military. 400 billion dollars out of the military and 400 dollars out of entitlements. 800 billion dollars total. The only thing we need to spend on is the navy.

unless there is another republican by name Jordan.

Nope, Jordon himself saying he doesn't want the job. Patriots saying that qualifies him, with McC wanting it too much.

But, it is somewhat of a head-scratcher....

It Jim Jordan. The six just threw out votes. Jim Jordan has no use for speaker. I think the 20 did a great job making the congress operate the way it’s supposed to. Nothing outrageous was asked. The final six are going to be pressured because they will look terrible if they continue. Gates’s speech was terrible. I don’t don’t even think Pensacola voters will be impressed. They have 9 months to get a budget and debt ceiling done. Hopefully they don’t wait until September 30th like they typically do.

Because the majority party is usually able to elect a speaker. The minority party being unable to elect a speaker is not news.

When did all this happen, and why was nothing done to stop it?!

Because it is so diabolical to the core. Most do not believe it.

See: Act of 1871;

See: Original 13th amendment;

For starters....

You'll likely come back to me and say you don't believe it.

Why is it always the military. They will cut retirees and active duty benefits before canceling an unwanted weapon system or shut down abase.

So why half a dozen keep voting for him?
Can Jordan pass along his votes to whoever he wants?

They have 9 months to get a budget and debt ceiling done.

Each day that passes is another day we don't send another $45 billion to Ukraine.
