Matt Gaetz Votes for Donald Trump as Speaker of the House

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Thursday voted for former President Donald Trump as Speaker of the House.

The vote came during the seventh round of voting in the contentious speakership battle, which is currently in its third day:

Gaetz stands as one of the several Republican holdouts refusing to unite behind Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Speaker of the House, initially forcing a second vote earlier this week — an occurrence the country has not seen in 100 years. In a Tuesday letter to the Architect of the Capitol, Gaetz inquired as to why McCarthy occupied the Speaker’s office, despite not having that position:

The Speaker of the House Office in the Capitol is currently being occupied by Kevin McCarthy.

Kevin McCarthy is not the Speaker of the House. He lost 3 consecutive votes today.

I may have missed it, but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone who doesn’t like how this is going suggest someone else for the job - someone viable, who actually would want it.

They’ve already called him a placeholder for white supremecy.

Seriously - a black, conservative Republican called a white supremacist. You can’t make this up.

I think Larry Elder was called ‘the Black face of White supremacy’ not long ago...

Andy Biggs, AZ 5th CD, was nominated. As an AZ voter- 8th CD, I would welcome Congressman Biggs as Speaker.

I like him. I don’t know much about Chip Roy but I’ve been impressed with him, too.

That’s fine for foot soldiers, but the speaker needs top-shelf parliamentary skills as well. Dems win because they are good at the nuts and bolts of politics. The GOP loses because is isn’t and doesn’t appear to care for that part of the job.

“Don Jr”

Would be my choice.
I’ve heard him speak. He’s a lot more organized than his father.
I’d like to see him run against Schumer for the Senate or for mayor of Ewww Yuck so that it could be New York again

The left would go nuts if the Speaker was a black conservative Republican.

And the harshest critics of him would be the black women.

I transcribe congressional hearings and whenever Donalds or Burgess have made comments about the dearth of black men being fathers or being responsible in general it's Jackson Lee, McBath, Kelly, Demings (gone now), and the vile Cori Bush who have gone after them the hardest.

It’s about time that someone besides Donald Trump stood up to the RINOs.

I expect McCarthy will make some compromises and get elected, but it’ll be a public dispay of how he can’t simply cave in without being held accountable.

I’d definitely love to see him get beat in a head to head vote before he drops out.

Hard to rig a recorded voice vote. And a dem beat him. Jefferies got more votes than anyone. Shameful.

Apparently, if the house is suspended for 2 years, so is the Sinate.

Talk about positive unintended consequences.

Most of us can live maybe thrive without Congress being session.

He’s one of the few who’s still brown-nosing Trump.

The problem with Trump is that if the Dems thought he had a chance of winning, they’d quickly coalesce around McCarthy.

Same with Donalds. The last thing they want is for the first black Speaker to be a conservative Republican.

What the opposition wants is very reasonable.

They would like the Speaker of the House to be "First Among Equals" rather then a swaggering tin plated dictator with delusions of godhood.

Is that so very wrong?
