The Hill predicts DeSantis will beat Trump for nomination

The Hill predicted Sunday that Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis will secure the 2024 GOP presidential nomination with former President Donald Trump as the runner-up contender.

DeSantis was picked as the top candidate for his double-digit reelection during the midterms and what The Hill calls "his embrace of culture war issues and his opposition to COVID-19–related lockdowns."

Explaining why Trump was ranked as the second most likely 2024 nominee, the outlet said: "Trump would have been the runaway favorite had these rankings been drawn up the day before the midterm elections. Since then, virtually everything the president has touched has turned bad."

Trump's controversial dinner with the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and nationalist commentator Nick Fuentes, along with what it called a "lackluster" campaign launch are reasons why The Hill predicts the former president may not be the nominee again.

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is considered the third-most likely person to be the 2024 presidential nominee, according to The Hill.

Trump and DeSantis have both been considered top contenders in multiple polls, although DeSantis has not launched a formal presidential campaign.

December's Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll showed that nearly twice as many GOP voters would support Trump over DeSantis in the primary. However, a USA Today-Suffolk University poll released days earlier showed 56% of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters supported DeSantis compared to 33% who supported Trump.

DeSantis isn’t going to run but some of those who work themselves up over him will then not vote for Trump.

DeSantis will run. He'd be stupid not to and he's not stupid.

If Trump wins the primary, DeSantis voters will get on board. Trump's problem is that he's lost the independent and swing voters who are critical for Republicans to win presidential elections.

The political partisans who post on Free Republic aren't the problem. It's the people who don't post here that won't vote for Trump (but they voted for DeSantis in his re-election landslide).

The left is really trying its best to goad DeSantis into running against Trump in 2024.

The swamp wants DeSantis?

When the Swamp pours millions into your campaign coffers, as proven by FEC records, then yes, they want you.

Boy do you have that 180 degrees backwards.

The ones you will have to worry about are stalwart Trump supporters that will look at an attempt by DeSanctimonious to primary Trump as an act of treachery and being a traitor.

And there are a lot more of them then the imaginary voters you mentioned.

Without those voters, DeSanctimonious doen't have a chance in 2024, or any year.

Bullshit.

AZ, GA, WI, PA, MI.

OK, what states does he flip? And he needs to flip at least three of them. He's absolutely toxic in four of them.

“DeSantis at least has a chance.”

DeSantis has no chance

DeSantis is not running. Why does everyone assume that everyone wants to be POTUS right now.

Not right now he isn't, however, all this DeSantis crap is meant to create an environment where DeSantis is stupid enough to throw his hat in the Primary ring because he thinks he is being drafted.

I’m expecting them to cheat in the primary this time, there’s plenty of RINO’s who will go happily along with it. They cheated Bernie out of 2 primaries, so now I guess it’s the Republicans turn. Trust me they will try and get rid of Trump no matter what it takes. That should be obvious by now.

And if Trump and/or DeSantis chooses not to run?

A lot can happen between now and 2024.

Looking forward to the 2024 Republican primaries where President Trump and any others who declare, can make their case to be the Republican nominee.

I agree with you. No matter how much I wish conditions were different, and how they should be different, they are what they are.

Hopefully you are not backing the Globalist / GOP Establishment bought and sold Desantis for 2024 POTUS?

As I've said before, it's so entertaining when people like you call the man who took on Disney, the woke school boards, homosexual indoctrination of children, shipped illegals to Martha's Vineyard, only to be re-elected in a massive landslide as the "Globalist / GOP Establishment bought and sold" candidate.

Meanwhile, the guy who handed the country over to Dr. Fauci, filled his administration with Deep State swamp creatures, mailed everyone "free" money, banned guns by executive order, campaigned for re-election with a $500 billion reparations package for blacks, endorsed Stacey Abrams for governor, and now throws gay parties at Mar-A-Lago is somehow the "Washington outsider who will drain the swamp."

You’ve got it backwards, the airheads are the ones supporting deep state neocon DeSantis.

Then he’ll notice all these dorsal fins circling around him.

Let's hope he is principled and disciplined enough to do just that and keep from doing something stupid and career-ending where being POTUS is concerned.

DeSantis has no chance

Bull. DeSantis wins AZ and GA easily, states are that are desperate to vote for Republicans, just not "Trumpy" ones.

Additionally, he takes a page from Glenn Youngkin's playbook and flips VA. DeSantis' pro-parental rights policies are popular in VA, as Youngkin demonstrated.

That's 272 electoral votes and the keys to the White House.

Trump couldn't flip any of these three states, to say the least about MI or PA.

I think he is. I hope he is. These thinly veiled baited traps of the Dems are annoying and insulting, though. It’s like, “Here, Rover! Have a bear trap! C’mon, stupid! Sink your teeth into a nice, juicy bear trap!”

Again, none of what you posted is true or will happen because of the millions of Trump Voters who will see DeSanctimonious as being a Traitor to Trump.

Argue against this for the rest of the time up until the Primaries, it will still be true and if DeSantis is Stupid enough to believe the people, especially Trump Supporters, want him as President OVER President Trump, he will, rightfully so, get his Ass handed to him in 2024.

If by some strange quirk of fate he was able to beat Trump in the Primaries, probably by Fraud, he would get slaughtered in the General.
