Taking stock of the situation in Ukraine $111 billion and 10 months later

If you were to ask any Democrat or Republican politician in D.C. about their reasons for supporting Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine, their reductive reply is likely to be ‘to defend freedom and democracy.’

###

Since the beginning of the war, Zelensky applied draconian measures to restrain the press such as threats of criminal prosecution and fines against media outlets and journalists critical of the government.

Zelensky also banned many media outlets claiming they were carrying Russian propaganda. But reports suggest these outlets were merely holding Zelensky accountable. Also, all television channels in Ukraine have been shut down except for the one controlled by Zelensky.

###

To sum it up, Zelensky has total control of every syllable being uttered by the Ukrainian media.

What about Political Opponents?

Weeks after Russia’s intervention, Zelensky imposed martial law to suppress opposition political parties.

Zelensky “temporarily” banned 11 of his political opponents including “The Opposition Platform for Life”, which has 44 seats in Ukraine’s national parliament. The party was accused of, you guessed right, being pro-Kremlin.

###

What about religious freedom in Ukraine?

Earlier this month, Zelenskyy sanctioned personnel within the Ukrainian Orthodox Church claiming they were “affiliated with centers of influence” in Russia.

###

The Church is the largest in Ukraine with about 12,000 parishes.

###

Zelensky is being called the modern Winston Churchill.

Churchill didn’t ban the Labor Party ,or adversarial media outlets, or churches. He used his powers of persuasion to bring people together, not tyrannical, draconian measures.

The Perils

This is much worse than the wastage of $111 billion of your funds.

The war in Ukraine had attracted over twenty thousand foreign fighters, who obviously haven't been vetted. These “fighters” could pilfer advanced weaponry for further use or sell it on the black market. The buyers could be terrorists. Biden’s open borders would allow these arms into the U.S. and could be used against citizens.

It's beyond sickening here that we have so many with accounts here spewing the Biden regime and "liberal world order" propaganda about this war. It's no better or worse than the FBI infiltrating Twitter.

It fits with my believe that natural cycles of history have now made the USA the neo-marxist empire, sowing revolution around the world in the name of a utopian, leftist, globalist ideology, directed by our own KGB and security state in Washington DC

People like Zelensky are our Pol Pots or Fidel Castros

They are implementing cultural revolution as well.

No one in the public knows anything about what is going on there beyond what can be seen on satellite photos.

Everything else is someone interpreting something per some narrative.

The photos show no electricity in Ukraine during the winter.

Nothing else is known.

The bidenistas. And some are not Americans.

Our friend and crony Cronos claims to live in Poland, though he doesn’t seem to have much knowledge about his country.

I love Tucker. He has done a fabulous job trying to educate us.

Maybe they can run on over there to kill Russians, as many post that is their goal.

I sometimes wonder if we still have some white supremacists hanging around. They are raging that their future home base/country Ukraine is being destroyed perhaps.

How many actually support FR?

How many are closet nazis?
No true American conservative would support Biden.

Who are they? Do they have stock in or work for Blackrock?

The reductive reply it to stop Russian aggression.

Something is going on. And I’m talking not that poster specially. But there is another that was basically idle for years. Maybe 1 or 2 posts each year over 4-5 years. But is quite busy of late.

It's beyond sickening here that we have so many with accounts here spewing the Biden regime and “liberal world order” propaganda about this war.

The majority have bought into the propaganda and are rooting for their team with no desire to understand what the actual situation is and has been. I am more embarrassed for them than angry. I am more fortunate than most because I have trusted close friends with a great deal of firsthand knowledge about the situation. It is hard to blame people who are reacting to non-stop misinformation.

Unfortunately, the money being squandered is just buying more and more death and destruction and dragging us closer to WWIII. It is not unlike Covid where the governments’ actions have merely made everything much worse and extended the problem for years on end.

My wife's grandfather gained his US citizenship by serving in the United States Army during the Spanish American War. There was no one more patriotic. Before WWI the Wilson administration got people so stirred up with anti-German sentiment that people in the small community in Oregon where they lived burned their house down and ran them out of town. The kids were not allowed to go to school after other children hit them with rocks and beat them up. The entire family nearly died from starvation and freezing to death during the winter.

The family had nothing to do with the war but just like the people here who now hate everyday Russian citizens because of the nonstop propaganda their neighbors were filled with rage. The real victims in this conflict are the Ukrainians, but the Russians are not the only ones responsible. Our leadership could not care less about the Ukrainian people. They are being sacrificed for everything but their freedom and well-being.

When I was eleven or twelve years old and read Science Fiction ardently, I discovered the concept of one world government.   I dreamed of how wonderful that would be.

Then I grew up and realized how horrible it would be to have no control of what a tin pot melomaniac would be able to do to us all.   I have thought a great deal about it in my close to seventy years and have real anger and frustration about the fact that my fellow countrymen haven't a clue.

When I was young, I used to think “It will be nice when the rest of the world can be brought up to our level of living”. Now I realize the plan is the opposite, to bring us down to 3rd world status.

This article packs on one lie after another. For example, the “banning political opponents” is false. There are huge numbers of parties in Ukraine. What was banned were those who were openly supportive of Russian occupation.

It just goes to show that American Thinker does not have really have a real editorial process when approving these articles.

"People like Zelensky are our Pol Pots or Fidel Castros

Total nonsense. This article is pure Russian propaganda.
The truth is Ukraine has treated pro-Russians the same as the U.S. treated pro-Nazis and pro-Japanese during the world wars.
Their activities were banned, their leaders were arrested, etc.

The truth is, Ukraine IS a working democracy, certainly as compared to Putin's Russia.
The war in Ukraine can easily be compared to 1938-9 Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland -- if not stopped here, the aggressor will soon enough aggress elsewhere.

Our problem today is the same as it's been for so many war's -- with Democrats in charge, there's no guarantee we will ever see a war winning strategy, or adequate protections on US national security assets.

A Putin victory in Ukraine will make the world a far worse place for American interests & values.

The article also goes into the UK during WW2. Contrary to the article’s assertions, the UK did ban pro-German political parties. They also detained people they considered potential enemies without trial, put people in mental hospitals that were opponents, heavily censored the media, and so on.
