3 “For the 28 years that he served as chancellor of Germany, Bismarck preserved what he had built by a restrained and wise diplomacy, which was the single most important element in maintaining the peace of Europe.” – Henry Kissinger Some people complain I never have a good word to say about the United States. That’s not quite true. I am sure if I dig deep enough, I can find a piece or two from a daily column that spans more than a decade where I said something nice. But today, I will change tracks: George H.W. Bush, the 41st US president. The more I read about him, the more it seems to me he has been the most underrated president of the last century. Sadly, that tends to be the fate of one-term presidents.

The guy who gave us gun free school zones? Made a spectacle out of resigning from the NRA? Banned import of semi-auto rifles “deemed” not to have any “sporting use”? That guy?
And it’s not even the Bee!!
Ugh! Gag me with a spoon!
I wouldn’t say Clinton was immensely popular — Perot really helped him out - but he was a highly skilled politician.
Bush was not a great politician. He wasn’t really in touch with ordinary people and didn’t know how to talk to them or how to deal with tough questions and sticky situations. Maybe he wasn’t dishonest enough.
I wouldn’t say that Bush threw the election to Clinton, but he was a very poor campaigner. Lee Atwater, Bush’s Carville, had died the year before and Bush was left with clueless WASPs and DC apparatchiks running his campaign.
“… he was a highly skilled politician.”
Yes. Clinton was a gifted speaker and could easily rattle off facts and figures in support of his points. I remember watching the dem convention and the moment when I knew he had won the election. A very smart politician who quickly went downhill after his second term.
Maybe he was never there.
I voted for Perot, too.
The thought of voting for globalist womanizer Bush turned my stomach.
Right on!
He was a despicable womanizer right to the very end, pinching the nurses’ asses, but I don’t doubt that he got down with the fruity boys during his college days.
That’s how his sort make connections.
You could say the same for most of the leftist politicians in CA.
“Read my lips” wasn’t as bad as his reply when asked about why he broke his promise.
“Read my hips” he sneered as he turned to walk away.
What an a-hole.

>>Maybe he was never there.<<
He was not dragged back to the Japanese-held island like his two compatriot-pilots, but rescued from his aircraft’s inflatable lifeboat.
I think he was the youngest WWII US Navy aviator we had.
Off an Interstate highway in Eastern Pennsylvania has had “The President Joe Biden Expressway” for a couple of years.
>>“ slaughter sadaams troops on the Hiway of Death as they tried to surrender”
No, they were most assuredly NOT trying to surrender. Ask me how I know.<<
Videos I saw showed Iraqi troops running away from the highway.
>>Ross Perot lost the election for us. Never forget that<<.
Al Gore could’ve been President but for Ralph Nader...
Loved Reagan, respected Trump for this amazing accomplishments in four years despite the pushback from Mitch and Ryan and their Dem and press friends, and Nixon was a decent foreign policy president maligned by the garbage press. Bush I and II were total failures, in my view; I had no use for either of them.
>>Watched “W” the other nite about his mediocre son who got us into a disastrous war over lying intel about Iraq.<< The Intel was provided by Clinton “holdover” George Tenet, and his “slam-dunk”...
>>Clinton ran circles around him in the debates and was quite well spoken and could lob some serious BS. Few people could have beaten Clinton and certainly not daddy Bush.<<
Clinton had Arkancide in his holster, and ream$ of Chine$e “donation$”.
>>He was a despicable womanizer right to the very end, pinching the nurses’ asses,<<
Older men tend to “act out” as their life sunsets.
As to “womanizer”, I recall no attributions.
