I'm doing fine, still a long road to full recovery but I'm in my 2nd week of being home and enjoying it.

Single digit temps here isn't fine though, hope for a warm-up soon.

What's new with you this Christmas season?

We’ve had a rainy day.
It lightened up for a while but pouring once again.
Thank God it isn’t snow!
We’re in for the teens starting tomorrow night.
But the sun will return.

Will the kids be coming for Christmas?

Oops! Forgot the daughter is in MD now.
Good news she’ll be back to visit.

Hubby and I are staying home.
I’ll fix dinner and we’ll watch a couple of holiday classics.

Granny Whale
Read: Psalm 71:15–24

My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds. Psalm 71:15

An orca whale, who researchers have named “Granny,” apparently knew the importance of her role in the life of her “grandbaby whale.” The young whale’s mother had recently died, and the orphaned whale was not yet old enough to thrive without protection and support. Granny, though in her eighties (or older), came alongside to teach him what he needed to know to survive. Granny corralled some fish for the younger whale instead of consuming them herself, so he would not only have a meal but would also learn what to eat and where to find the salmon he’d need to live.

We too have the distinct honor and joy of passing on what we know—we can share about the wonderful works and character of God with those coming after us. The aging psalmist asks God to allow him to “declare [His] power to the next generation” (Psalm 71:18). He earnestly wishes to share with others what he knows of God—His “righteous deeds” and “saving acts”—that we need to flourish (v. 15).

Even if we don’t have the gray hairs of old age (v. 18), declaring how we’ve experienced the love and faithfulness of God can benefit someone on their journey with Him. Our willingness to share that wisdom might just be what that person needs to live and thrive in Christ even in adversity (v. 20).Kirsten Holmberg

Who has nurtured your relationship with God? Who needs your wisdom today?

Dear Father, thank You for sending me wisdom through those who’ve walked ahead of me. May I do the same for others in Your power and love.

I grew up with this version, which features most of Clement Moore's original poem with some additions by Ken Darby, whose vocal group, the Ken Darby Singers, backed Bing Crosby on several of his hits including "White Christmas."

It almost didn't see the light of day. Fred Waring and the gang had to race to complete it before a scheduled strike by the American Federation of Musicians would deprive him of his instrumentalists. They got the production into the can the day before the strike began, to the delight of untold millions, including yours truly, over the next eight decades. It has since become a fixture in America's Christmas songbook.

A Visit from St. Nicholas ('Twas the Night Before Christmas)--Waring's Pennsylvanians, with the Swingerettes & Gordon Goodman (1942)

Good evening, beachy...I was last week after the second big storm. There was more than 2 feet of snow in my driveway and no plow guy. They came sometime between midnight and 8 am Saturday. Still had to dig out my front porch. That berm on the right went directly to the garage door (the car could get out), but no opening to the porch stairs. I had to dig thru the berm and then shovel out the steps.

I grew up with this version of the first line, compliments of my comedic uncle:

“Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was snoring, not even my spouse!”
