Celebrating Hanukkah! Following the program, special Hanukkah donuts were served, and dreidels and Hanukkah gelt (small chocolate coins) were given out to those in attendance. Soldiers and families visit following the 2-130th Airfield Operations Battalion deployment ceremony December 17, 2022 at the Salisbury armory as it prepares to mobilize to the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) area of responsibility in support of contingency operations. Soldiers and families cherished precious moments together as they prepare to support each other from afar in the coming months. (Photo by U.S. Army Capt. Patrick Montandon)
Victory Block Leave!! Trainees from Fort Jackson relax at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport's USO lounge as they wait for their flights home during Victory Block Leave, Dec. 19, 2002. Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

Bending Low
The Father of compassion and the God of all comfort . . . comforts us in all our troubles. 2 Corinthians 1:3–4
A young mom followed behind her daughter, who pedaled her tiny bike as fast as her little legs could go. But picking up more speed than she wanted, the little girl suddenly rolled off the bike and cried that her ankle hurt. Her mom quietly got down on her knees, bent down low, and kissed it to “make the pain go away.” And it worked! The little girl jumped up, climbed back on her bike, and pedaled on. Don’t you wish all our pains could go away that easily!
The apostle Paul experienced the comfort of God in his continual struggles yet kept going. He listed some of those trials in 2 Corinthians 11:23–29: floggings, beatings, stonings, sleep deprivation, hunger, concerns for all the churches. He learned intimately that God is “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort” (1:3) or as another version translates it: “He is the Father who gives tender love” (nirv). Much like a mom comforting her child, God bends down low to tenderly care for us in our pain.
God’s loving ways of comforting us are many and varied. He may give us a Scripture verse that encourages us to continue on, or He may have someone send a special note or prompt a friend to give us a call that touches our spirit. While the struggle may not go away, because God bends down low to help us, we can get up and pedal on. — Anne Cetas
In what ways has God comforted you? How can you be a comfort to others because of that?
Father of compassion, come near to me and hold me in Your arms where I can find rest and encouragement.

One of the toughest things with this Covid stuff (i.e. SCAM), is that I can no longer volunteer at Walter Reed. They locked us out.
Started out volunteering there during the Afghan war on their amputation ward.
A privilege to serve.
Miss it much.

HEY, GIRL, AND HEY, ALL,
AIN’T JUST HUMP DAY AS IN WEDNESDAY, IT’S THE GREAT HUMP DAY, AS IN THE WINTER SOLSTICE, SO THE DAYS WILL BE GETTING LONGER EVERY DAY THAT GOES BY FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS! I KNOW WE’VE GOT ALL OF WINTER TO GET THROUGH, BUT HEY I’M AN OPTIMIST! THAT’S SOMEONE WHO WHO HAS LOTS OF HOPE SPRINKLED WITH A HEALTHY DOSE OF FAITH!
ANYWAY, LET’S ALL HANG IN THERE, ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS, AND THROW SNOWBALLS EVERY CHANCE WE GET! KATHY, WILL GET GET MORE OF A CHANCE TO DO THAT THAN ALL THE REST OF US COMBINED. AIM WELL, STRIKE, THEN LOOK AWAY AND WHISTLE...NO ONE WILL EVER BE ABLE TO BE SURE IT WAS YOU.
KEEP THE FAITH...AND STAY WARM!

Howdy, luvie.
Ready to hunker down?
Man, I’m glad I don’t live any farther north than I do! I’m watching Ryan Hall and he’s mentioned that in Cheyenne, WY, the temp dropped from 43 to 19 in TEN minutes! That’s a FAST drop. It’s supposed to drop fast drop here, too, but not quite that fast. It won’t be as cold and we won’t have as much snow either, but we’ll have more than enough of both.
I’m as ready as I can be and hope to make it through unscathed.

Howdy, TigerHawk!
I hadn’t even paid attention to the date. It IS winter solstice, isn’t it? I’m ready for the days to start getting longer.
And warmer! LOL
Got a ways to go for that. *sigh*
Kathy has enough snow for ALL FReepers to throw snowballs. The folks around Anchorage would probably LOVE us to all take some of their piled up snow away. :-)

BACK MOST OF A LIFETIME AGO WHEN I WAS A YOUNG GYPSY ROVER I WAS IN WYOMING, TWIXT CHEYENNE AND LARAMIE, IN JULY OR AUGUST. I ASKED THE MAN AT THE GAS STATION HOW COLD IT GOT DURING THE WINTER. HE SAID,”WELL, IT AIN’T REAL BAD. WE DON’T GET BUT A WEEK OR TWO WHERE IT GETS ‘T BE 20 BELOW, OR SO.”
AND THE GUY LOOKED SO NORMAL!...

Good evening, radu...are you all ready for the COLD to come to you?? It seems to be on its way. We are finally above zero for just a short bit. Then below for a couple days, and then back up into the teens.
