Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) has announced she has left the Democrats and is registering as an independent senator.
Sinema made the announcement Friday morning by publishing an op-ed in the Arizona Republic.
The senator blasted the increasingly partisan interests and radicalization of the Democratic Party as the reason for her departure.
She suggested that she had felt under pressure to “demonize people” as a member of the Democrats.
Sinema continued by explaining that such divisive tactics are causing lawmakers to become “distracted by political drama.”
In her op-ed, Sinema explains that she decided to become an independent as her moderate views don’t align with the major political parties.
“Americans are told that we have only two choices – Democrat or Republican – and that we must subscribe wholesale to policy views the parties hold, views that have been pulled further and further toward the extremes,” Synema wrote.
“Most Arizonans believe this is a false choice, and when I ran for the U.S. House and the Senate, I promised Arizonans something different,” she continued.
“I pledged to be independent and work with anyone to achieve lasting results.

If Sinema continues to caucus with the Dems it ultimately means nothing. She’s trying to head off a strong challenge for re-election.

the two party system we have is nowhere defined as a “thing” in the constitution. The system we currently have is clearly not democracy. Nor is it republicanism.

McConnell is 81 he will be gone soon; nature will take its course. McDaniel will stay because the state Republican chairs don’t want a strong RNC chair. Another example where Republicans would rather protect their local rice bowls then win.
You may have something there. Check out Pelosi. Significant cleavage and she ruled the House for a long time.
I expect Manchin to switch parties before the next Congress.
Word I heard is that she was going to receive a primary challenge by a radical progressive and likely would lose. So she would run for Senate as an independent. I don't know how difficult it is in AZ to get on the ballot (petition signatures or other?). If there are three on the ballot and the Dems split the vote, it may make a Pub pickup if they nominate a decent popular candidate. Lots of things in play right now.
Hopefully, now that she went Indy she won’t turn into a Bolshevik Bernie clone.

What it might mean is that she intends to challenge Joe Biden for the presidency.
This is all smoke and mirrors. The RATS know Sinema’s seat is heavily contested. Becoming an “independent” gives her cover with “independent” voters that will tip the scales, provided that vote stealing isn’t enough. Sinema doesn’t have the courage to make a move like this on her own. Just more RAT stratgery by Schmucky and the crew in the Senate. Who was the last RAT politician that could be trusted at their word? Yeah, can’t think of too many either.
