NY lawmakers push for slavery reparations for black residents
New York Post ^ | December 5, 2022 | By Carl Campanile and Zach Williams

Some New York lawmakers are renewing the push for a state law that would lay the groundwork to pay reparations to black residents whose ancestors were enslaved. Proponents gained steam after a task force in California last week recommended that the Golden State shell out $569 million in reparations to slaves’ descendents there, or $223,200 apiece, because of lingering housing discrimination practices.

So they want to profit from labor of people who did not get paid for their work.

How is that not the same as the slave owners themselves?

Is this the total amount or just the start?

This is hardly the tip of the iceberg. Trillions of dollars will be needed from time to time to bribe more people to win elections for them.

In a few months most of the recipients will be broke again

That money will be burning the proverbial hole in their pockets, and under the "Law of Circulation," it will be floating all around the economy.

New York was brutally oppressive to the poor slaves back during its slave state days.

New York had slavery in the early years of the Republic, then had gradual emancipation. They should restrict payments to people who can prove that their direct ancestors were slaves in New York (not just anywhere in the USA).

Martin van Buren's father was a slaveholder. Martin van Buren was a Democrat during his Presidency (1837-1841) but later ran as the candidate of the anti-slavery Free Soil Party in 1848.

A county in Missouri which had been named Van Buren County changed its name to Cass County because of his running on the Free Soil Party ticket.

Several individuals who took prominent roles in the Anti-Slavery movement before the Civil War were former slaveowners.

What about including the thousands of indentured servants/slaves that came over on the Mayflower and subsequent English and French ships...

Most people will be unable to provide objective evidence that their ancestors were actually slaves, which means any such laws would require a racial presumption of black = slave ancestors. And right here, they’ll be unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment.

Are these payments because blacks were harmed and couldn’t get ahead and benefit from being in a white society. How about blacks today that did benefit- Oprah, NBA players, rappers ,etc. Shouldn’t they be forced to give up their ill gotten gains and redistribute it to their fellow blacks?

$569 billion, not million. CA’s entire state budget for the current year is $303b.

There were quite a few New York plantations that kept slaves to pick cotton in the fields. They did it in the winter time… oh, wait! That was snow not cotton. My bad!

I’ve done some amateur genealogy work. In looking for records for some of my Irish ancestors in the potato famine years, James and Mary Butler, I’ve found ship manifests where the every single one of the passengers were named James or Mary Butler.

What does that tell you? - Irish slaves.

So, if they pass this law, and you’re descended from either a James or Mary Butler, you can claim the law is discriminatory (by restricting it to black slavery)and you should be paid as well.

[Giving freeloading bass turds from Africa a quarter million bucks each is the most retarded thing I’ve ever seen the buck-tooth inbred honkies do.]

IMHO, the color line, along with the one-drop rule, was not exactly far-sighted. Its bastard child, Jim Crow, was another dumb idea. Mexico had black slaves. As did Brazil. They just melted into the general population. That’s why you don’t get this BS there.

Yes.

Helpful memoir of Donald J. Harris about slave owning background of the Kamala Harris family heritage....

My roots go back, within my lifetime, to my paternal grandmother Miss Chrishy (née Christiana Brown, descendant of Hamilton Brown who is on record as plantation and slave owner and founder of Brown’s Town) and to my maternal grandmother Miss Iris (née Iris Finegan, farmer and educator, from Aenon Town and Inverness, ancestry unknown to me). The Harris name comes from my paternal grandfather Joseph Alexander Harris, land-owner and agricultural ‘produce’ exporter (mostly pimento or all-spice), who died in 1939 one year after I was born and is buried in the church yard of the magnificent Anglican Church which Hamilton Brown built in Brown’s Town (and where, as a child, I learned the catechism, was baptized and confirmed, and served as an acolyte).

I still have a feeling that most white and Asian and Latinx Americans will strongly resent being forced to pay reparations.

Maybe America is now so far gone that I’m wrong but I still have the feeling.

What about the fact that AFTER the slave days of the 1800s “the United States is the number one emigration destination for black people.” That means someone coming in long after, and NOT having endured slavery.

People ariving in the US from Central America, Mexico, India, China, Scotland, England, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Russia and.....black people from various countries....all here long after being slaves or slave holders.
