Lynne Ingersoll and her cat, Jesse, spent a quiet Thanksgiving Day together in her small bungalow in Blue Island, Ill.
A retired librarian, Ms. Ingersoll never married or had children. At 77, she has outlived her parents, three partners, her two closest friends, five dogs and eight cats.
When her sister died three years ago, Ms. Ingersoll joined the ranks of older Americans considered “kinless”: without partners or spouses, children or siblings. Covid-19 has largely suspended her occasional get-togethers with friends, too. Now, she said, “my social life consists of doctors and store clerks — that’s a joke, but it’s pretty much true.”
Like many older adults, Ms. Ingersoll copes with an array of health problems: kidney disease, asthma, heart disease requiring a pacemaker, arthritis that makes walking difficult even with a cane. She’s managing, but “I can see a time when that’s not going to be true,” she said. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do about it.”

This is the final chapter of Life of Julia that the Obama campaign left out.
“Ve must purge ze useless eaterz….” Kaiser Klaus..
THE NEW OLD AGE Who Will Care for ‘Kinless’ Seniors?
JESUS . . . if one wants Him to.
Tons of single childless angry white females are heading this way after voting to destroy society for those with kids
Coming soon: The government will be there in her final days as well, to ease her from her suffering with assisted suicide.
They will convince these poor souls to end their lives
Last Monday my dearest friend died, she was 96. For the last 6 years I was her caregiver also. She had no family really left and no one to help her. I promised her I would take care of her and she would never be in a nursing home and I would not put her in hospice. She could stay at home. And I kept my promises. She died peacefully I believe, she just slipped away.
I can understand this story very well and I wonder what will become of me down the road and I am 67, but in good health right now. These are the forgotten souls in our country and more often than not end up in crappy nursing home, and they are all crappy regardless of the price you pay.
That is nice but unrealistic in this real cruel world.
Nobody will be left to care for them.
I can only hope I don’t become infirmed to that point of needing to be cared for, because I know I won’t be.
Sorry for your friend’s passing. But good on you for what you did for her and the care and comfort you provided.
Well, the democrats - and their slavish voters - killed 63 millions of care-givers. So the surviors are left with only the government.
Not me. I have two Granddaughters that I WILL see grow up.
They may end up eating Klaus (with sauerkraut and a stein of beer).
Why, these kind and compassionate professionals will.
Bless you, it is hard, but a labor of pure love.
People are excited about the Soylent Green factory opening up at the edge of town.
Wow, that's a lot. Probably needed a BIG hole to bury 'em all.
Where was that hole dug exactly?
Or were you too busy with P.E. class to notice?
I am worn out, I never realized how tired I was until she wasn’t there any longer to care for. Going to take me a bit to get it over it.
God bless you. You and your friend were both fortunate you could keep your promise. It could easily have become impossible. This is such a big issue and no one talks about.
77 isn’t that old for God’s sake.
