Netherlands to close up to 3,000 farms to comply with EU rules

The Dutch government plans to buy and close down up to 3,000 farms near environmentally sensitive areas to comply with EU nature preservation rules.

The Netherlands is attempting to cut down its nitrogen pollution and will push ahead with compulsory purchases if not enough farms take up the offer voluntarily.

Farmers will be offered a deal “well over” the worth of the farm, according to the government plan that is targeting the closure of 2,000 to 3,000 farms or other major polluting businesses.

Earlier leaked versions of the plan put the figure at 120 per cent of the farm’s value but that figure has not yet been confirmed by ministers.

“There is no better offer coming,” Christianne van der Wal, nitrogen minister, told MPs on Friday. She said compulsory purchases would be made with “pain in the heart”, if necessary.

The Netherlands needs to reduce its emissions to comply with EU conservation rules and agriculture is responsible for almost half the nitrogen emitted in the proud farming nation.

The Dutch environment agency has warned that native species are disappearing faster in the Netherlands than in the rest of Europe and that biodiversity is under threat.

But the new plan looks set to reignite tensions with farmers over nitrogen reduction.

Dutch farmers have staged mass protests, burnt hay bales, dumped manure on highways and picketed ministers' houses over the last three years.

It’s a sham democracy. Dutch people can vote in elections for European Parliament, but there is no parliament there. A elect committee makes the laws and The Netherlands would have to exit to refuse them.

Not much longer now before they declare people must be sacrificed for the good of the planet. Wonder which group they will choose first? They are cowards so they will pick the easiest to convince the masses with and people wont be able to fight back.

You will comply “voluntarily.” If you won’t, we’ll give you an incentive to comply. If you still don’t bow down in submission begging forgiveness and accepting to comply as you wail in pain, they will make you comply. They have ways of making you obey your masters. They’ll just take your farm, or tax it to extinction.

Non-scientific morons. What are they going to do about the 78% nitrogen in the atmosphere??? 🙄🙄🙄

comply with EU nature preservation rules.

Isn't the "nature" of about a quarter of the Netherlands below the North Sea? Blast the dikes, drown the residents and feel smug about loving nature.

In recent years I figured out that the movie wasn’t about
2450-2500 at all. It was couched in that manner to avoid
being labeled racism or whatever.

It’s here right now.

I can’t log within 100 ft of the class 1 stream even on the north side. Pesky sunlight might overheat the water and kill steelhead and non native salmon that were planted illegally.

Are they going to “Pave Paradise and put in a parking lot”?

Better paint it white so that it doesn’t become a source of global warming!

Right, market value. And does that include the retail value of the livestock or a government buyout? Do we destroy the young stock or rear them for market? Is it a million dollar farm with 2 million annual gross revenue? Will the government be offering jobs to everyone displaced? Do farmers keep their homes? And if so, will they be able to earn enough income to pay the mortgage on the home? Our farm income pays the stupid mortgage and local taxes on our large historic home, soo, not sure if we could get work near us to pay it :~{

Buying a farm at or just above todays “market value” does no where near enough to secure the missed annual incomes and work of the farmers and their employees due to the closed farms.

Market value is not the same as the net present value of the property, equipment, as well as the future earnings from farming. After the government forces the sale of property, these farmers are unemployed with farming skills that the government refuses to let them do. A very poor deal for the farmers. A very poor deal for the serfs as food costs will soar and availability will plummet. It is a great deal from the elites.

Exactly rice. The government is offering the price of the property, not the price of the business.

The Netherlands is the world's 8th largest exporter of food (amazing for such a small country), so reduced farm production will impact more than its own food prices and availability.

The govt wants to reduce the # of cows and pigs because of the excess nitrogen they produce. It's not a problem with the farms themselves. At the very least, it seems like the govt should allow the farmers the option of significantly reducing their herds and transitioning to other crops. It also seems like the EU should spend some money on finding ways to capture and dispose of or sell the excess nitrogen.

Hmm...

Farmers will be offered a deal “well over” the worth of the farm, according to the government plan...

And:

“There is no better offer coming,” Christianne van der Wal, nitrogen minister, told MPs on Friday.

I don't think they're worried as much about any better offers as they are hanging on to the family farm. Which does not appear to be an option. The real Green Revolution is the one that has fended off world famine for a century or so now and we're headed straight back to the normal days of human history where we are one bad harvest away from starvation. This is not "progress".

Dumb f——ks are just as disarmed as the jews were over on the other side of the border in 1942. At least the current regimes are still in ‘good PR mode” and the boxcars haven’t quite happened...yet.

This is another failure — no not a failure, but a collaboration with the woke national Euro press.

The atmosphere is 78% nitrogen. But instead of rightly riducling and condemning this foolishness, the press champions this destruction of the farming industry and the generational families supporting it, to the detriment the nation.

These farms must, out of necissity, operate but will in the future be owned by the multi-nats and the local farmer can be damned.

When the western culture is debase down to a shadow of what it once was, the moslems can have it. Won’t be much worth fighting for.

BTW these are livestock farms they are after, for their livestock making nitrogen compounds/gasses that are supposedly greenhouse gasses. Are the Dutch dumb and evil enough to do this as their energy and heating situation deteriorates?

By livestock I mean chickens on up. This is a war of vegan, quasi-vegan, city dwelling, climate change nutcases, versus hard working farmers.
