McCarthy: If GOP Plays Games in Speaker Elections, Dems ‘Could End Up Picking Who the Speaker Is’ (then step aside!)

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said Monday on Newsmax TV’s “Spicer & Co.” that if Republican members “play games,” the Democrats may end up picking the next House speaker.

Anchor Sean Spicer said, “We’ve had a couple of these folks that say that they won’t vote for you on the show. When we ask them what they want, they list a couple of rules, concessions that they want. And we say, well, if you get those concessions, will you vote for McCarthy, ‘Well, we’re not sure.’ Well, then, who do you want your candidate to be? ‘We don’t know that.’ You know, one can’t one of those people suggested Jim Jordan, he supporting you, Marjorie Taylor Greene is supporting you, Donald Trump-supporting you. You’ve raised, what, $500 million? Some of these people, you’ve actually funded their races. The thing that I don’t understand is I don’t envy your task. These folks aren’t giving you a target. I get your point. There’s no alternative. Everybody has voted for you. The conference has spoken. And as James Comer at the top of that clip said, you know, you’ve earned the opportunity. You were the quarterback, the coach that led them to the big game and won.”

He asked, “So the question is, going back to what Lindsay said. You’ve got five people that you’ve laid out all your cards out there. What is it that you are able to say to them that is going to change them at this point to get you 218?”

2 articles on Breitbart this morning, trying to scare us into supporting McCarthy or else.

It's the same old thing.

"If our preferred guy doesn't win, then it'll be the Democrat, so you might as well support our guy!"

And there's another alternative. For McCarthy to step aside since he doesn't have enough support. But of course that'll never happen because that's not how these people operate. McCarthy is one of the Young Guns, Establishment tools intended to be Speaker.

Let McCarthy lose a couple of votes on the 3rd. Force him to remove his name from contention, so we get another choice. We're tired of the game.

Here’s the other story.

With a slim majority I suppose that that’s possible. And in the Senate...if Walker wins (unlikely given Rat Party voter fraud) the GOP could try to flip Manchin.

“If our preferred guy doesn’t win, then it’ll be the Democrat, so you might as well support our guy!”

Pretty much a distinction without a difference at this point

He’s a member of the Uniparty and wants a Uniparty speaker.

Regardless of who R’s elect as Speaker nothing will change because the party itself has no principles or convictions. JMHO

You have to choose between a fake Dem and a real Dem. He is not MAGA and a NeverTrumper.

McCarthy needs to make concessions if he wants to be speaker.

Trump endorsed McCarthy as a great leader, but without conditions.

It is good that some are putting conditions on McCarthy for speaker.

I told you. He will sell out to get a few Dems to vote for him and the Uniparty marches on

So McCarthy goes with the “At Least I’m Not A Democrat” defense? Give me a break!

My guess is some democrats will cross the isle and vote for the some corrupt worthless person like McCarty rather than risk letting a competent person become speaker.

Nobody else is likely to have more support.

The Republicans aren’t likely to unite behind some new candidate.

This is where warped political delusions flare up in a big way.

If McCarthy isn’t the House Speaker, then who is? The Republican who challenged him and got all of 30 votes among his fellow Republicans?

Who’re the alternatives? The names that come to my mind are not representatives, but senators. So I am kind of clueless here.

LOL! I was at an event in Northern Virginia when the host said “I want to introduce you to Eric Cantor who is standing over there.” I said no thanks. I don’t talk to RINOs. The host is a RINO and looked displeased. I went back to my seat.

You do realize the Speaker can be anyone? Does not have to be a member of the house. But this all noise, cowardly republicans will vote McCarthy, this story is just to sell print or get clicks.
