HOUSTON — The country’s fourth-largest city on Sunday night ordered millions of residents to boil their tap water, citing a morning power outage at a city water purification plant.
The city’s school system also announced late Sunday that it would be closed on Monday, at minimum,...
...It wasn’t clear what caused the water plant’s power outage, why it took the city 10 hours to issue a boil water order or how soon the order could be lifted...

Remind me what cabal rules Houston?
It’s after 11 CST.
Do you know where your jihadists are?
Democrats.
What else does Houston have in common with Jackson, Mississippi?
Democrat Sylvester Turner, mayor of Houston.
Municipal water systems have become the latest cash cow for crooked politicians in democrat ran cities. I’m from Mississippi and Jackson’s water system has been in the news lately because it’s been essentially non-functional for several years. Jackson has been given tens of millions of dollars to fix their system but the democrat politicians take it out the back door as soon as it comes in the front. The “contractors” they hire to do studies and repairs are all their relatives or girlfriends. I’m sure much of the same is going on in Houston.
As those that “can” retire or are replaced with diversity candidates, we can expect more systems to fail. There is more to managing and maintaining critical infrastructures than completing the diversity check-lists for HR. Someone has to know when and what repairs are needed and have the ability to do the regular maintenance on these systems.
Ahh, Houston. Texas’s anus.
While our infrastructure collapses, the white house is busy sending billions to Ukraine.
America Last Biden is leading us to third world status.
It will only get worse from here under these losers.
Houston voted Lina Hidalgo back in— a lemonade stand would probably be problematic for them.
Ain’t any better in San Antonio.
I look forward to Lina’s corruption indictment coming down. It can’t be long since 3 of her top aides have and at least on has learned “he who squeals gets the deal. “
Um no.
Harris County Texas is now Maricopa County Arizona 2.0.
I guess decent water is just another thing that is too much
to ask from a Democrat administration in a large city.
Darn that Trump. Don’t vote for any Republicans!
I am sure that’s probably true. What A holes.
Yeah, 50 billion in military equipment in a country that spends trillions--including by Trump and his stimulus checks--is causing infrastructure to collapse in shitty Democratic cities.
Makes perfect sense.
Running a Water Treatment Plant is not like changing a filter in your coffee maker by any means.
For the most part Water Treatment Plant Operators are treated like dirt by most everyone. Ignored the 99% of the time day or night by those that turn the faucet handle and water comes out just fine, clean and odor free and SAFE to consume round the clock. Nobody ever calls the Plant to say Thank You for making life so easy for Us.
But get no or low pressure, cloudy/dirty or stinky coming out of the faucet and bet your bottom dollar that Water Treatment Plant phone number is #1 on everybody’s speed dial. And most of the time We Water Treatment Plant Operators have known about the problem and more than likely have already cured the problem and have Crews out Flushing the Distribution System to finish correcting the problem.
Mind you, nobody calls the Plant back with that speed dial to say “Thank You”.
Everyone in the City/Municipal food chain leading up to the actual Water Treatment Plant Operators knows absolutely nothing about what it takes to run a Water Treatment Plant.
I really enjoyed being a Plant Operator for years because I felt that I was part of the Community and took Pride in the job. Then came the Piranha from City hall and H(ighly) R(idicules) swimming upstream trying to use Plant Operators as scapegoats
That’s one of the reasons that I no longer do the Water Biz.
Exactly! Just like the janitorial staff in most buildings. If the trash is not picked up, the office occupants immediately call and complain. They don’t care if that staff is busy cleaning up after a reception and short-staffed because two employees didn’t show up for work. They don’t care if they are busy cleaning the restroom because someone threw paper towels in the toilets causing a flood. All they care about is the fact that their trash can is half-full and no one has stopped by to get it.
I worked in an office before retirement and saw how they were treated. It really ticked me off. These people worked hard every day with no one appreciating all that they did. I organized the yearly collection of Christmas bonuses for those staff members. They were poorly paid and living paycheck to paycheck and deserved a bonus for what they put up with each day.
Of course, system maintenance is more complicated and requires more skill, but the attitude towards those workers is the same.
Well the title of the article is better then the foxnews clickbait
“2 million ordered to boil water in this major city”
What is the nickname of Austin?
You are nothing but a White Supremacist! /s
I understand your concerns and an sympathetic having felt the pain myself.
Let’s be honest to a certain certain degree that is true of every business and service. When things work people people just it ignore go on about their business. Crucial services such as water, power, gas and now Internet get immediate attention when they fail. It’s only human nature.
I trained my offspring and the people around me (as much as I can) to be grateful for things that function correctly. And to search out, as much as possible, and find the ones that can correct it.
We use the following mantra:
Have you told the ones that can fix it; did you thank the ones that did the work.
For example, every time I’m in a restaurant I seek out the manager or the person in charge and thank them for their work and the work of the crew. I also go out of my way to make servers and the kitchen staff feel appreciated. But I’m not shy about finding the manager if something’s wrong.
Be safe. It’s an angry world out there.
