Kevin McCarthy could face a floor fight for speaker. That hasn’t happened in a century.

The last time a vote for speaker went to multiple ballots on the House floor was in 1923. The longest was 133 ballots over two months....

...In this game of chicken, if the conservatives don’t blink and McCarthy refuses to back down, it could result in a chaotic floor fight with House members taking multiple votes for speaker — something that has not happened in a century.

Here are other examples throughout history where the speaker's gavel didn't come easy....

If it weren’t for “Jimmy Jordan” we would have hundreds of gotcha questions MISSING from House investigations.

Jordan has done a marvelous job of dissecting and explaining the nefarious conduct of our government.

I am grateful for everything he does.

Shame he wants NOTHING to do with MANAGEMENT. I don’t blame him.

I totally agree with you that we need to replace all the “micks” in the GOP leadership.... but Speaker of the House is not chosen by just the majority party. The reason he’s still there is because we have such a slim majority, if even a few RINOs vote for him and won’t be swayed to someone with a backbone, then the Democrats get to chose the Speaker again. Why do you think he’s refusing to help conservative candidtates win a seat in Congress?

Hasn’t Trump endorsed McCarthy for Speaker? Should’nt you be angry at Trump, too?

“When you strike at the king you must kill him”

I wonder if this applies to the treatment of 45 as well.

Another Paul Ryan as I see it,nothing of real importance will get done regarding the blatant corruption of both sides.

I think you misunderstood my point, McCarthy is the RINO and if he wins he’ll do to the conservatives what he did to Marjorie Taylor Greene which is make sure she got no committee assignments and a crappy office in the basement. I hope the conservatives can kick him to the curb and get someone way better than him.

So do you think that 218 of the Repubs will vote for someone who is not Deep State?

It would only take about two ‘moderate’ Pubs to vote with Dems to put the Dem choice as Speaker (think Lizard Cheney). They could put Nanzy back. They could put Valeri Jerrit in. Or just a ‘moderate’ Dem.

And the Speaker has power to issue subpoenas, and more:

https://cha.house.gov/member-services/house-rules

The Speaker shall sign all acts and joint resolutions passed by the two Houses and all writs, warrants, and subpoenas of, or issued by order of, the House. The Speaker may sign enrolled bills and joint resolutions whether or not the House is in session.

Right now I am more afraid about Crazy Liz jumping in and taking it.
There are enough votes to make it very possible.

As Emerson put it, “When you strike at the king you must kill him” (politically, in this case).

Not sure I care either way. Milquetoast McCarthy is a pariah, a shit-stain on the Republican Party.

So are McConnell and McDaniels.

We need a good Conservative revolt, hold the RINO's accountable and don't give them a single vote on anything.

I see no chance that anyone but McCarthy wins the job.

The GOP can’t even win huge with an economy like this with a terrible president.

How are they going to get someone other than a RINO in as Speaker of the House?

The best we can hop for is that the republicans posture as much as possible to stop Biden’s agenda, but I’m not betting on it.

They talk tough but are short when it comes time to actually deliver.

I share your opinion on McCarthy, but I have strong confidence that the GOP will take the oppty to damage their brand with a floor fight.
