Kevin McCarthy could face a floor fight for speaker. That hasn’t happened in a century.

The last time a vote for speaker went to multiple ballots on the House floor was in 1923. The longest was 133 ballots over two months....

...In this game of chicken, if the conservatives don’t blink and McCarthy refuses to back down, it could result in a chaotic floor fight with House members taking multiple votes for speaker — something that has not happened in a century.

Here are other examples throughout history where the speaker's gavel didn't come easy....

It’s not obvious who else is interested in the job - but there could be far better choices than McCarthy. He’s not that smart. He is deaf, dumb and blind when it comes to strategic political messaging. He’s not an effective public speaker for the GOP’s sole toehold on leadership for the next two years.

Remember that the Speaker does not need to be a member of the House. If Newt Gingrich were younger...

It’s a bold move the conservatives are taking. RINOs are vindictive SOBs and McCarthy will ruin them if he wins. As Emerson put it, “When you strike at the king you must kill him” (politically, in this case). May it be so.

Left is doing its best to stir up division on the Right. of course i am not comforted by the history of R’s - who manage to squander many opportunities.

Witnessing the vindictiveness of Freepers against Trump we don't need the Democrats to stir up anything.

Why does the minority party have a vote for the majority leader?

This is a vote for Speaker. Not for Majority Leader.

Why the editorializing in the story? It is all set in procedure. Procedure is not chaotic. From the article.

“...it could result in a chaotic floor fight...”

On the one hand, McCarthy is a spineless Establishment RINO - exactly the kind that needs to be removed from power within the Republican party.

On the other hand, because their majority is so small, the Establishment RINOs have no choice but to rely on MAGA representatives. That means they were able to hold McCarthy’s feet to the fire and extract a lot of concessions out of him - such as launching several investigations, throwing radical Leftist Democrats off of committees etc. I’m sure McCarthy didn’t like being forced to play hardball with his Democrat masters but he has no alternative. So as lousy as he is, he has to do at least some good things in the next session of Congress.

It looks like the choice is between Andy Biggs (MAGA-AZ) and Kevin McCarthy (GOPe-CA) for the soul of the party.
America first or same old same old.

IF the current reporting on the RINO McCarthy are correct - He and the rest of the R Rinos are not folding under any pressure from the "Freedom Caucus", especially not so since Jimmy Jordan, the macho wrestler from Ohio has chosen(been bribed) to support McCarthy.

The House Republican leadership has rejected 6 out of the 8 House Freedom Caucus rules changes that have been considered so far, Just the News has learned.
The amendments that failed included a requirement that spending bills must pass before the fiscal year officially begins on Oct. 1. If not, other legislation would not be able to be considered on the floor.

SPENDING - this is where Trump failed us

Please verify:
Majority Leader.
A term Nan/San Fran made into being after becoming Speaker
in order to give a title to an ‘also ran’? Hoyer or Clayburn?
