NPR Presents Laughably Pathetic Thanksgiving Food Substitutes Due to Inflation
Newsbusters ^ | November 24, 2022 | P.J. Gladnick

Remember "funemployment?" That was a concept introduced during the Obama administration during 2009 to make people feel better about rampant unemployment by portraying it as a fun thing.

Well, flash forward to the inflationary era of 2022 during the Biden administration and National Public Radio has come up with something similar. Not the "Whip Inflation Now" (WIN) of the 1970s but more of an upbeat version that makes inflation sounds like a creative challenge or Winflation. And as part of the Winflation challenge, NPR has come up with what they think are creative ideas for whipping inflation during Thanksgiving dinner.

Picture the scene: The Thanksgiving guests are seated around the dinner table and eagerly anticipating the traditional dinner when the host reaches into the oven and pulls out a tray of... bacon. Imagine the depressing letdown of the guests when they realize it is no joke and they won't be eating turkey. Nothing could be destroy the mood more except perhaps if the host also presents his substitute for stuffing... sliced tomatoes.

I think it's like the NPR types just don't like the celebration of Thanksgiving so they come up with HORRIBLE food ideas just to ruin the holiday.

Remember when SNL was funny?

Remember when they MOCKED NPR and made that cute sketch (with Alec Baldwin, no less!) about the Christmas 'Schweddy Balls?'

Good times...

Ingrates are never thankful, they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving because they are filled with hate.

Since it wasn’t stores, I ordered the new Spam Figgy Pudding product on line.

Delivery was promised yesterday but it didn’t arrive.

Not actually knowing what Figgy Pudding is, I don’t know if the Spam product is actually real

Turkey spam slices done on a George Foreman grill and served with gravy and potatoes are actually quite good. Obviously not a meal to impress, but certainly a very quick meal to fill.

Who remembers the Johnny LaRue (John Candy) cooking show on Second City TV in the late 1970s? Or Cruising Gourmet (Dave Thomas) stuffing a turkey?

Seriously.

The thing about sliced tomatoes is that they are out of season, so more expensive than your roots and pumpkins/squashes which can last all winter in a root cellar.

Stuffing otoh is an example of American ingenuity. This is a dish made out of stale bread. All you have to do is save and cube your bread once it starts to go stale.

The whole meal is a lesson in how to thrive in hard times.

“On average, a 16-pound bird will run you $28.96”

We found a grocery store brand 11 pound young turkey for $5......FIVE dollars.

npr is full of shit.

When I was stuck in the college dorm, I have had delivered fried chicken. One time a floormate (who would go on to be president of Village Road Show pictures and clerk for Souter) made us cornish hens in a toaster oven.

Bacon sounds good, but the amount I would consume would cost a LOT more than turkey!

Rather than cutting back on Thanksgiving dinner, why not treat it like Mardi Gras. Spend the money and cut back during the penitential season of Advent as Christians used to do?

No, they are going to be eating well! And I doubt any of them sit around contemplating the horror of Thanksgiving.

I was surprised coming back from town & I had NPR on. They called the Colorado shooter he & not they. Surprised me to be honest.
