Good evening, radu...hope you are feeling better and back on your feet. Still cold?

It’s mid 20s here with LOTS and LOTS of quacking ducks in the back yard. A couple VERY loud ones are very persistent!

Onwards! Unswerving
Read: 1 Thessalonians 3:11–13; 4:9–12

[We encouraged] . . . you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. 1 Thessalonians 2:12

In the poem “Rest,” the poet gently challenges our tendency to separate “leisure” time from “work,” asking, “Is not true leisure / One with true toil?” If you want to experience true leisure, instead of trying to avoid life’s duties, the author urges, “Still do thy best; Use it, not waste it,— / Else ’tis not rest. / Wouldst behold beauty / Near thee? all round? / Only hath duty / Such a sight found.”

The poet concludes that true rest and joy are both found through love and service—an idea that brings to mind Paul’s encouragement to the Thessalonians. After describing his calling to encourage believers “to live lives worthy of God” (1 Thessalonians 2:12), the apostle gives more specifics.

And the picture he paints of such a life is one of quiet integrity, love, and service. Paul prays that God would “make [their] love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else” (3:12). And he urges believers in Jesus to “make it your ambition to lead a quiet life,” to “mind your own business and work with your hands” (4:11). It’s that kind of life, quietly loving and serving in whatever ways God has enabled us, that reveals to others the beauty of a life of faith (v. 12).

Or, as the writer puts it, true joy is “loving and serving / The highest and best; / ’Tis onwards! Unswerving— / And that is true rest.”Monica La Rose

How does God’s presence help you experience true joy? How are rest and service united in God’s kingdom?

Loving God, thank You that I don’t need to avoid the duties and rhythms of daily life to experience Your beauty. Help me to know the joy of a quiet life lived with You.

Bible in a year: Ezekiel 5–7; Hebrews 12

Hey there, Kathy.

Yes, feeling a little better each day. The pain is pretty much all gone now. It’s just a matter of getting my strength back up after not being able to eat much at all for a couple of weeks.

We somehow made it up to 50 degrees again today but another cold front is coming through tonight. Clear skies let the little warmth escape when the sun set and it’s already 34. I believe we’ll see the low 20s they predict for the low. BRRRRRRR

It’s been a gorgeous day up there but it does look frigid. The ice on the lake is looking frosty.

I imagine your web-footed friends are hungry because there’s no open water for them to get at whatever food they forage underwater. I’ll bet your numbers are increasing rapidly these days. LOL

Howdy, Rus.

I wish you the best of luck this weekend. It looks like y’all are in for a rough winter ride up there. Yikes!

Howdy, luvie.

Hope your day’s been good, even if it is still chilly.
We somehow squeaked out 50 degrees again but with the cold front coming through tonight, that won’t happen again until next week.

Hey there, radu!

It was an ok day. I don’t think it reached 50 here, or if it did, it was barely. Sounds like we are having sort of the same kind of weather. Except that it’s supposed to be in the mid-50s tomorrow before dropping back down into the 40s.

YES! Hump day is not quite over yet, but then a breather...

And into the office I go tomorrow. We finally got a batch of AP checks back from the bank. I will open the package and see what we got. HOPEFULLY the checks that were due last Thursday, and the ones for this week.

The paychecks are sitting in the STUFF TO PRINT folder, so I’m assuming I will print and mail per usual. I SURE HOPE SO!!

We hit 50 briefly but it was there when I woke up. By the time I made a quick store run for a couple of things for Hubby, it had dropped to 46 and kept going down. Thank goodness there’s no precip here tonight like there is in KY and down into TN a bit. They’re getting some snow and it looks like my brother got caught up in that. We’re just cold.

Getting ready to shut things down so I can unwind a bit before going to bed. Tomorrow is the monthly Republican women’s meeting and I’m going. I’ve missed them since the museum opened in April and anxious to get back into the swing of things. That makes three early wake-ups but I can go in to the museum a little late Saturday if I want. Just need to be there at opening time Friday since we’re low-staffed and that won’t be a problem.

Oooo...I’m glad you didn’t get snow. Just what you’d need!

Enjoy being with the other Republican women tomorrow. I know you have mixed feelings about going to the museum since this is the last weekend. But 3 days of getting up early? That’s awful! Or sure would be for me. LOL!

Great you’ll get a little breather tonight. I bet you’re ready!

After the other night of rain/snow/rain, is your street going to be a problem tomorrow or did the plow guys show up to scrape it?

Fingers crossed that the envelope from the bank has all the checks you’re looking for, especially the ones that were due last week. Those guys probably aren’t very happy.
