Montana Sen. Steve Daines is the new chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Scott is no longer a member of the Senate GOP leadership team

Florida GOP Sen. Rick Scott is no longer the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee after challenging Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for leader of the caucus on Wednesday.

McConnell defeated Scott 37-10.

Montana GOP Sen. Steve Daines was elected the new chair of the NRSC.

McConnell, the longest serving Senate GOP leader, said on Tuesday that he welcomed the challenge from Scott but predicted he had enough votes to win.

“I don’t own this job. Anybody in the conference is certainly entitled to challenge me," McConnell said at the GOP leadership press conference. "And I welcome the contest.”

Scott was "un-invited" to the press conference after announcing his decision to challenge McConnell for the chamber's GOP leaders position, according to Scott's office.

Scott was a member of the Senate GOP leadership team as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and typically appeared at the weekly news conference with McConnell and other GOP leaders.

During a news conference after the GOP leadership election on Wednesday, McConnell was asked for his assessment of Scott's performance as NRSC chair. He declined to share an opinion and deferred to Daines. The Montana senator said he would make decisions based on lessons learned during the 2022 midterm election.

“The Montana senator said he would make decisions based on lessons learned during the 2022 midterm election.”

I suggest a meeting with DeSantis.

McConnell and Daines don't think that they are the problem.

It has to be Scott, (or Trump).

They need to do a lot more moves than just challenge for leadership. I don’t know what kind of power you have as 1 Senator but Rand Paul seems to get under people’s skin with some od his moves so they need to follow Rsnd more often.

No matter whatever else Scott may have done, good or bad, he remains the nitwit who said the (R) agenda needed to be jiggering around with S. Security and Medicare. His line was quoted in damn near every (D) TV ad during this election, and in every speech by the Cadaver in Chief.

Never give your opponent material for the locker room bulletin board. Duh!

Stop voting for people who support him but every Primary and every election is “the most important “. Trump, if nothing else just kept a bunch of junk Senators out of the Senate with all his primary work. Some fools can’t think past the next election.

Wish it wasn't a secret vote. I'd like to see the shake out. A lot of RINOs were McConnell acolytes for sure. Collins, Tillis, Romney, Murskunkski, name 'em and shame 'em!!

Any vote for McConnell is a vote for the CCP and Biden.

Daines... the Chinese “Montana” Senator.
He spent 13 years in China with Procter & Gamble. After seven years managing operations in the United States, he and his family moved to Hong Kong and China for six years, opening factories to expand Procter & Gamble’s Asian business.

Figures China McConnell would choose him.

Yes. Much better to just let it go broke and collapse and do nothing to fix it. A great idea.
