Meghan McCain: Midterm results should be ‘final nail’ in Trump’s political coffin

Conservative pundit Meghan McCain says that Tuesday’s disappointing midterm election results for Republicans might have put the “final nail in the coffin” for former President Trump’s political career.

In an op-ed published by the Daily Mail Wednesday, McCain, a former panelist on ABC’s daytime talk show “The View,” wrote that Republicans “are waking up this morning outraged and confused” because the GOP has so far failed to gain majority control of the House and Senate despite “the highest inflation rate in decades, crime that is “up everywhere” and President Biden’s low approval ratings.

Once the media shifts all of their fire to DeSantis we’ll be having this same conversation, only replacing Trump’s name with the Mighty D’s.

We republicans are a faithless lot.

I have no use for her, and I’m not agreeing with her....

But you cannot argue Trump has not been diminished by the R under performance....unfortunately his ego will get the best of him. Again. He will make the GA runoff all about him and Walker will lose.

If can stand aside for 4 weeks and let DeSantis and Kemp campaign, HW will win

This was by design. A month ago, anyone paying attention to the media messaging heard “the Republicans look to take the House and the Senate is a maybe”. A few weeks ago, the sudden shift in media messaging that predicted the utter destruction of the Democratic Party was always suspect. The GOPe refused to fund MAGA candidates and then the media started talking up the chances of the Republicans...almost like they wanted to preserve that ability spin it as an underperformance...Trump’s underperformance. The strategy was to make it a loss for Trump even if the Republicans took the House.

Give it a rest, why. TRUMP raised Walker to the level he is now. He will rally the troops for the win unless anti-Trumps like you opt out to vote just to prove a point.

Exactly! Trump is the only one who petrifies the left. The only one they are afraid of and the RINOs are worse than the Dems! Have we purged enough RINO is the question. It will be great having the House!

They’re running through their strategy. Lofty expectations, when not met blame Trump and say it’s proof that he’s done. They really think will play along? He’ll take credit for the wins and move on to 2024. If they end up taking both chambers the argument will be what exactly? Could have been by more? Sure. Could have been by less. Perpetual losers.

The Trump hate is strong in America.

I love what Trump accomplished and think the 2020 election was far from fair, if for no other reason than the media was against him. They characterized everything he did in the worst possible way, and they accused him of crimes that were never proven. It is amazing that Trump accomplished anything, but since his own Republican party stabbed him in the back, everything he accomplished through executive power alone was rolled back.

I also know that DeSantis will be attacked in much the same way, but he doesn’t start with the same negatives. Senator McCain, for example, was characterized as both a hated enemy and a cherished bipartisan friend multiple times, depending on how much he threatened Democrat goals. DeSantis will be demonized in the same way, but perhaps he has a better chance of winning the presidency in 2024.

I hope Trump and DeSantis come to peaceful terms, because I do not want us to lose the presidency again. Had we done better this election, I would have thought Trump stood a decent chance of winning, but now I think he would lose in 2024. It doesn’t mean I won’t support him, but the media has made his name toxic (and he’s done little or nothing to help fix that.)

‘the “final nail in the coffin” for former President Trump’s political career.’

At least Trump has had a career. Multiple successful careers, in fact. Can’t say the same for Grifty McNepotism here.

In politics, winning is everything. Democrats know this. It doesn’t matter how good Trump’s ideas are. It doesn’t even matter if he was robbed in 2020. If he can’t help get his political allies across the finish line, he’s a hindrance, not a help.

Republicans should have smoked the Dems in this election. Does anyone seriously believe Trump will be able to overcome all his negatives to win in 2024? It doesn’t matter how fired up his loyal minority are. They are still a minority.

“If we are going to convince the reluctant and media brainwashed fools to wake up, we need to divorce the concept of patriotism from the Trump name.”

Anyone who runs on that platform is going to get demonized just as badly as Trump has been.

Bingo.

“Half the country hates Trump”... well half the country will hate whoever the media tells them to hate. Trump was able to overcome that though. We have no evidence that any other modern political candidate will be able to.
