As the Republican Party appears poised to regain a Senate majority in Tuesday’s midterm elections, prior speculation of a challenge to Mitch McConnell’s leadership has only increased as the final hours count down.
As reported by The Hill, Florida Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) has long hinted at the possibility that he might challenge McConnell for the position of Senate Majority Leader. On Sunday, Scott again refused to rule out the option of running against McConnell after NBC’s Chuck Todd asked him about such a showdown on “Meet the Press.”
When Todd asked if Scott would consider running for Senate Majority Leader, Scott responded by saying that he is “not focused on anything except getting a majority Tuesday night.” When Todd called his response a “non-answer,” Scott replied by adding that “it’s a possibility.”
Republican strategists have reported numerous back-and-forths between Scott and McConnell suggesting that their relationship has fluctuated, going from a once solid working relationship to a contentious rivalry in recent months. Scott, as the current head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), has clashed with McConnell and his Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) for refusing to fund certain pro-Trump candidates in crucial swing states.

Scott (my namesake I guess) is no fireball and he sure doesn’t get the juices flowing…but
Anyone but McConnell, Thune or Linda.
McConnell is from Kentucky.
McConnell is from the demorat wing of the GOP.
Rick Scott would be great.
“If he’s ousted as Majority Leader, expect him to become a sort of back room saboteur.”
If he is ousted Mitch will likely resign. He has been leader of the party too long to be just a regular Senator. The reason he is still in the Senate at his age is the rush that comes the from power of controlling the Republicans in the Senate and making deals with the Democrats. Take the power away, and the job is no fun.
Romney, Murkowski, and Collins derive power from being able to play the spoiler. If Mitch loses the job of leader and stays to play the spoiler, he shares that power, he doesn’t have full control. Mitch likes being the supreme authority, not being part of a small team.
Should Mitch resign, Kentucky law says his party gives the governor three names from which to pick a replacement. The governor of Kentucky is currently a Democrat so he will choose the one of the three names the GOP leaders give him that appears to be most beatable in the next election cycle.
Rick Scott probably can’t assemble enough votes of Republican Senators to dethrone Mitch, just as McCarthy likely cannot be dethroned. In 2018 Jim Jordan ran against McCarthy for House minority leader when Paul Ryan resigned. McCarthy, who represented the establishment, won by a vote of 159-43. The truth is, establishment RINO’s are still the majority.
No, Scott is the worst. He is no more conservative than Mitch, but Scott is a complete moron. He has no political sense, and looks dumb whenever he talks.
McCrooked needs to be replaced as leader to have an effective majority
He’s incompetent
Unions are still at it.
