As the Republican Party appears poised to regain a Senate majority in Tuesday’s midterm elections, prior speculation of a challenge to Mitch McConnell’s leadership has only increased as the final hours count down.
As reported by The Hill, Florida Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) has long hinted at the possibility that he might challenge McConnell for the position of Senate Majority Leader. On Sunday, Scott again refused to rule out the option of running against McConnell after NBC’s Chuck Todd asked him about such a showdown on “Meet the Press.”
When Todd asked if Scott would consider running for Senate Majority Leader, Scott responded by saying that he is “not focused on anything except getting a majority Tuesday night.” When Todd called his response a “non-answer,” Scott replied by adding that “it’s a possibility.”
Republican strategists have reported numerous back-and-forths between Scott and McConnell suggesting that their relationship has fluctuated, going from a once solid working relationship to a contentious rivalry in recent months. Scott, as the current head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), has clashed with McConnell and his Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) for refusing to fund certain pro-Trump candidates in crucial swing states.

Rick Scott is better than McConnell and John Thune (McConnell's protege)
Paul or Kennedy would be better than Scott.
We'll see how this plays out.
Any change away from Turkey Neck would be welcome.
Give me Josh Hawley, however anyone would be better than the turtle.
Mitch needs to step aside and allow the America First MAGA candidate to succeed him.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
One RINO for another!
MAGA person ONLY!
Mr elaine and luntz’s roomie need to go!
McConnell should be thrown into the nearest garbage can and Senator, Rick Scott should be chosen to become the new Senate leader of the GOP!!! McConnell ....Stinks and is useless!!! Dump the deadbeat Mitch McConnell.....Period!!!
Tweedeledumb and Tweedeledee
I love Kennedy. He is one of those savvy southerners who knows politics intuitively.. He’s only been in the senate since 2017 though which may be a stumbling block.
1. Mitch needs to go.
2. WTF does ANY republican go on “Meet the press”?
There won’t be a clash. McConnell would have thirty or forty votes for leadership. Scott wouldn’t come close.
Yep. If anyone thinks McConnell will be ousted is dreaming. He will have the votes because he knows how to manipulate and intimidate.
Surely there is a better candidate than Rick Scott. However, he may be just flaky enough to get in.
If he's ousted as Majority Leader, expect him to become a sort of back room saboteur. Not saying it shouldn't happen, but be very cautious. He's basically a sneakier and smarter Mitt Romney.
Thune could be led, seems to me, so even he could be a much better leader.
Obviously a firebrand like Paul would be ideal, but anyone who could coalesce new Trump endorsees to put some balls into R opposition is positive. That may happen with any challenge to Mitch’s leadership, win or lose.
Challenge strength is highly dependent upon how many DjT endorsees win, which I expect to be all or most. 245 h, 55 senate.
For what it’s worth Scott was publicly fighting with the turtle over abandoning MAGA candidates. Scott wanted the most republicans in the Senate. The turtle wanted to shut down several republicans, at the expense of a dem winning that seat.
MAGA or not, between the turtle and Scott, Scott is better.
And nobody is gonna vote for Rand Paul lol. He speaks too much truth for him to be loved by a majority of his peers imho.
“f he’s ousted as Majority Leader, expect him to become a sort of back room saboteur”
I get all that. But he’s a back room saboteur now. So really, there wouldn’t be much difference. All those legislative tricks aren’t that hard to learn. The rule book is right there.
Best not to count RINOs before they hatch.
We haven’t had a leader from a Red State since Neut.
Scott would be at least a step up from the past.
