Supreme Court more diverse than lawyers who argue before it
The Associated Press ^ | November 4, 2022 | By MARK SHERMAN and JESSICA GRESKO

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court looks more like America than it ever has. The lawyers who argue at the nation’s highest court? Not so much.

The current two-week session of arguments features 25 men and just two women, an imbalance so stark that the Biden administration’s top Supreme Court lawyer made a point of it in her defense of race-conscious college admissions Monday.

Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar argued to the court that extreme racial or gender disparities between certain groups “can cause people to wonder whether the path to leadership is open.”

Prelogar and Morgan Ratner, a lawyer in private practice, are the lone women who began arguments this week as attorneys customarily do, “Mr. Chief Justice, and may it please the court.”

No woman will argue a case in the second week of the court session.

The glaring lack of women was a “common sense example,” Prelogar said, that she hoped would resonate with the court, especially when women make up roughly half of law school graduates.

“And I think it would be reasonable for a woman to look at that and wonder, is that a path that’s open to me, to be a Supreme Court advocate? Are private clients willing to hire women to argue their Supreme Court cases? When there is that kind of gross disparity in representation, it can matter and it’s common sense,” she said.

The racial and ethnic disparity among lawyers also is stark, at a time when there are four women, two African-Americans and a Latina among the nine justices. Just one Black man has made a Supreme Court argument this term, and the last time a Black woman appeared before the justices was in 2019.

I care more about whether they are upholding our God given freedoms than about whether they look like what New York or California.

Leftist AP harps on race, thereby pro.oting racism.

” The Supreme Court looks more like America than it ever has”

Hilarious.

Proves journalists are still innumerate.

Black people are like 13% of the population, bit less then 1 in 7. There are 9 people on the court, which means that there should be LESS THAN ONE OF THEM if the court “looked like America”. Yet there are now two.

Jewish people are like 1.6% of the population or less then 1 in 63, so physically there should be ZERO Jewish people on the court...but we have Kagan, and for years, there were three: the most un-representative ruling gang in America.

The people who forced quotas and proportional representation on us never planned to mandate it for themselves. The court has been a minority dictatorship for decades: where’s the WASPs? After all, we created that court. Yet even now there’s only one, and he’s a convert.

The premise of the article is crap. As usual.

Here’s the deal, and get used to it or STFU. Women get the high school GPA’s and SAT scores to go to college. Women get the GPAs and LSAT scores to go to law school. Women graduate at the top of their classes from law school. Women are heavily recruited by leading law firms. They do great and have the ability. That’s UNTIL they need to make partner and deal with the rigors of working 70+ hours per week and find new clients. It’s not that is the problem, it’s their biological clocks are counting down at the same time as they make partner. Combine that with the dollars they are making. The marginal utility of extra pay decreases, especially when you don’t have time to spend what you earn. Very few people make partner at leading firms, that includes men. Just as many men decide the effort required to be at the very top of their field is just not worth it the endless hours of work. There are a few that have the drive make their careers a priority over everything else in their lives. They tend to be men. Women are very rational about the choice of having a balanced life. That should be commended. It is not a matter of sexism. This IS NOT a problem.

Great table.

Considering the results of that table, we should ask: when do they start wearing red and demanding us to confess our heresy?

A court founded by a nation that was 2% Catholic is now 66% Catholic? Say what?

Almost a Monty Python skit.

Thank goodness for the Catholic ‘mass’ on the Supreme Court.
Yes, I discriminate which religion I admire.
If all these people were into Santeria, Voodoo or Wicca, yes, I would be very troubled. Might want to add Scientology too.

So according to the AP, the Supreme Court that looks more like America struck down Roe v. Wade which was a decision from the Supreme Court when it looked less like America. Good to know!

Most people hire lawyers based on competence. That’s particularly true for cases brought before the Supremes.

Unlike a few of the Justices, private attorneys are selected on merit.

If this is about the college affirmative action case, women are already over-represented in colleges.

Just curious if the lawyers know what sex they are because one Supreme Court Justice is clueless.

The next thing to do is make sure the non-white attorneys get their fair share of wins.
