One would have to be a special kind of stupid to bring drugs into a foreign country, especially into Russia.Or in this case, conditioned over years that anything you did was O.K. and you would never be held accountable because you are in a special class, or two.

Lesson: Do NOT, under any circumstances, carry Marijuana or any paraphernalia with you into Russia.
Is nine years going to be enough for Griner to learn that one singular thing?
No bail on personal recognizance or get out of jail free cards in the Russian Federation.

It amazes me how many Americans think they can go to foreign countries and not be subject to their laws.I spent a lot of time in Mexico when I was a teenager. My best friend's family had a house in Ensenada, and my buddy and I had total freedom. We hitchhiked all over the place.
We pretty much avoided American tourists.

Were they dual citizens? I didn’t think non-Mexican citizens could own property in Mexico?

When Russia was Communist, and even after, the leftist journalists thought it was hunky dory.Yep, Boris Yeltsin was their MAN!
It seems they started hating Russia once they knew they could use Putin as a cat’s paw against then-candidate Trump.
Yep, and the fact that Putin fouled up their plan to steal everything in Eastern Europe.

In this country, "elites" like her are untouchable. They are surrounded by fawning sycophants and all the annoyances in life (like standing in line at the DMV) are handled. All the legal hiccups get "fixed."
It is very nice to be a celebrity in America, no doubt about it. You would think they'd have the common sense however to realize that a country like Russia could not possibly care less about their celebrity status.

Sounds like it sucks.
I guess if I were bringing illegal substances to another country, I would check out the rules. I even do that when traveling state to state.

Brittney Griner will enter a system of isolation, grueling labor and psychological torment......like the Jan. 6 political prisoners in the District of Criminals re-education camps?

Had “she” been arrested in the U.S., there are a number of cards Griner could have played - the race card, the gender card, the celebrity card, the LGBT card. However, none of those work in Russia.
To: GreenHornet
If any attempt to play those cards made her situation worse!

Perhaps she may realize that the USA isn’t the evil racist place as she was duped to believe.
To: FLT-bird
It could be Russia is being vindictive but I think Griner did more than we have been told
