I'm trying to gauge Freeper opinion about the abortion issue and how it could affect the mid-term elections.
Like most of you, I've seen TV commercial after TV commercial where a Dem candidate or a paid actor goes on to intone that the GOP candidate is extreme, anti-women and wants to take away abortion even for cases of rape or incest. My wife (aka The Wife) has received a number of mailings put out by the Democrats on this issue.
A recent poll done by a local TV station on a local congressional race said abortion was the second most important issue after the economy.
So how do you all see it? Is it an issue? As I see it, it's the Dem's only issue. They can't run on the economy, crime or taxes.
Do they have a winning issue among suburban women? do they see something in the polling that says that suburban women are up in arms over this issue? or is this the only thing thay have and are playing it for all it's worth?
What do you think?
i think it will make a difference with young women, if they are inclined to vote.
anybody that lives in the real world and spends their own money knows the deal.
More women are pro-life than men. Most Americans want abortion to have restrictions. The Democrats are the ones out of sync with the electorate.
It’s ALL the Dems really have to go on.
While all of us Normals who live in the Real World are concerned about exploding crime rates, economic downturn, inflation going sky-high, and a possible threat of global war, the Dems think this is the be-all and end-all of what “everyone wants”.
It is, after all, their ‘Supreme sacrament’, the desire to kill babies en masse.
I’ll go with “It’s the only issue they have and they’re playing it for all it’s worth.”
It an issue that does matter to young suburban college-educated affluent white women, but those women were never going to vote Republican anyway. Now the Democrats are in stop-loss mode, desperately trying to keep their voters motivated to vote, and not sit this election out.
Democrat convention discussion-— “Well, we screwed up the economy, families are struggling, food prices are trough the roof along with all energy costs. Crime is rampant, open borders, brink of another world war, inflation is 8.3%, the Dow sucks-——Let’s run on “
killing babies”!
Democrat voter-—”I don’t care if I’m homeless, I want to kill babies-—I’m voting Democrat”.
They didn’t want to have to use the word “abortion” so explicitly, which is why they hid behind the word “choice” for so long and avoided the word abortion.
Even people who consider abortion a necessary evil aren’t comfortable hearing it brought up. It cannot get votes for your candidate, only move votes away from the other. It motivates turnout, but on both sides.
Believe it or not, I have known pro-life Democrats (they are a dying northeast-midwest phenomenon), and they used Roe as an excuse to vote Dem, as it was out of the officials’ hands anyway. That excuse is gone.
There are going to be a LOT of cross-tabs run on this election.
Nope. They are preaching to the demonic choir.
True, if abortion is a voting issue, or penultimate issue for anyone, such people wouldn’t have voted Republican anyway.
Not only should it not be subsidized, it should be heavily taxed.....like cigarettes....and stigmatized.
Abortion is a phony issue. Our political system cannot resolve it and all I've ever seen it do is get good candidates for public offices defeated by vermin.
They don't want to talk about the economy and inflation, the border crisis, Fentenal crisis, crime, CRT and porn in the schools. Just all abortion all the time.
This and endless racism is all they have.
Statistics from previous elections show there is a pro life increment. Search “pro life increment” for details.
Basically, and overall, those who will vote for you because you are pro life are greater in number than those who will vote against you for it.
I believe this will continue to be the case.
I’d vote pro life even if it wasn’t of course.
Not sure about the election, but the real test for everyone will be: do you realize that God forms each baby in the womb? And that abortion is the killing of that child He formed?
FWIW, none of the polls I’ve seen have abortion but it’s not near the top.
Inflation
Crime
Economy
Those are usually the top three.
The Supreme Court had almost 50 years to overturn Roe v Wade. The court is an arm of the Deep State. Democrats are desperate and they calculated that giving up federal abortion would help them. It may help marginally but their collapse can not be avoided.
I am FAR more concerned about the rampant, unchecked inflation I see at the grocery store, frankly.
For me, the issue of abortion and its legality/whatever has been decided. It is a matter correctly left to the states because there is no Constitutional right to abortions, period. That much is clear, and if the Democrats were even able to push through Congressional statute on it, it would likely be ruled unconstitutional. That ship has passed.
I disagree with the issue not having traction among suburban women voters. As part of my efforts to help local Republican candidates I’ve spent a lot of time talking with people in the suburbs. And contrary to your statement abortion is an issue for many of these voters.
The most common theme I heard repeated is that the state legislators did not ask their constituents what they wanted concerning abortion restrictions, etc. Just because a small vocal minority made a lot of noise about abortion banning many of the legislators assumed, incorrectly, that all of their constituents were for it. This was not a smart move by the Republican legislative majority and I fear we will lose seats we should not have due to this.
Nobody regardless of what your political or religious affiliation is, likes being dictated to. And many potential voters made a point of saying this.
i agree with Wayne Allyn Root’s analysis of that issue:
