You have no obligation to correct my self destructive behavior for me. Your emotional state at my self destructive behavior does NOT remove my right to be a free man and destroy myself.
When you think about it, the is precisely the same type of moral relationship God has with His creatures. He tells them “do not do this” but gives them the freedom to willingly self destruct. It is called being a free moral agent. Choosing selfishness to the point that I injure your person or property calls for punishment, but He allows self destruction. It is a horrible and serious honoring of my moral and intellectual faculties.
We are called to no less with our fellow man. If you DIRECTLY injure someone’s property or person, then the state may punish you. If not, no silly arguments about causing an “environment” where “harm may occur.” You are a free man. I must treat you as such.
