US Senators Lindsey Graham, John McCain and Amy Klobuchar told Ukrainian troops in December 2016 that they would help make 2017 a “year of offense” against Russia and that it was time to make Russia “pay a heavier price”. Knowing they had an agreement with Putin not to let NATO get closer to Russia.
The Deep State and NATO have been actively planning and conducting uprisings and unrest worldwide in Afghanistan, Iraq, Serbia, Libya etc. Ukraine is just one more in a long list of countries that have been devastated for the benefit of the very few that pull the strings. Putin just got in their way and they don’t like it.

They were trying to get a war going before Trump was sworn in and could stop it. They failed. Trump put the kibosh on the McCain-Lindsey scheme for a Russia-Ukraine war. That’s why McCain hated Trump. And now that Trump is out and Biden in, the war has started. McCain must be doing a happy dance wherever he is.
Trying to get a war going? Putin had already invaded and taken over part of Ukraine’s territory by that point - that was round one (Crimea). Obama’s ineptitude / weakness is what Putin took advantage of - same way he did so with Biden. Putin is the one who got a war going - both times - taking advantage of the weakness of the West.
Just think if they had succeeded in installing the witch, Hillary Clinton, in 2016. They would have made 2017 ‘the year of offense’ instead of this year. Trum’s win cost them years off their schedule.
Since Trump wants to do a peace deal in Ukraine, I take it you will oppose Trump for re-election.

Do you remember when Secy. Of State Antony Blinken, suggested to Ukrainian Pres. Zelenskyy he may apply for NATO membership. Of course, the Biden administration wanted war with Russia. Previous agreements between Russia, The U.S. and U.K.guaranteed Ukraine would always be a buffer (neutral) country between the West and Russia. So the Biden Administration lit the fuse. Russia had to act since Biden broke long standing agreements and naturally Pres. Putin felt his country was threatened.
I don’t love the Russian Government but I know the Ukrainian Government is utterly corrupt.
Quite certain Lindsay was disappointed when Trump won in 16 and would have been much happier with the beast

Obama's weakness was in allowing the US backed overthrow of an elected European president...losing Crimea was the consequence of his listening to Biden, Graham, McCain, et al.
By 2016 Ukraine had already lost one war in Donbas and was supposed to be implementing the Minsk agreements.
