Chinese President Xi warns he may use 'FORCE to retake Taiwan and slams US for interfering as he opens 20th Communist Party congress - where he will cement his place as the most powerful ruler since Mao

President Xi Jinping on Sunday kicked-off the 20th congress of China's ruling Communist Party with warnings that he may use force to retake Taiwan as he slammed foreign interference in its reunification efforts.

The gathering of roughly 2,300 delegates from around the country began in the vast Great Hall of the People on the west side of Tiananmen Square amid tight security and under blue skies after several smoggy days in the Chinese capital.

Xi began a speech that touted the party's safeguarding of national security, maintaining social stability, protecting people's lives and taking control of the situation in Hong Kong, which was rocked by anti-government protests in 2019.

On Taiwan, Xi said, 'We have resolutely waged a major struggle against separatism and interference, demonstrating our strong determination and ability to safeguard state sovereignty and territorial integrity and oppose Taiwan independence.'

The gathered delegates responded with loud applause as their president emphasized that China will 'never commit to abandoning the use of force' in its unification with Taiwan, which he called inevitable.

Xi added that China will accelerate the building of a world-class military and strengthen its ability to build a strategic deterrent capability

Xi reaffirment of China's power in Asia comes after President Joe Biden vowed the US military will defend Taiwan if China launches an invasion as he ramped up the rhetoric with Beijing over the tiny island nation.

The President suggested he would deploy troops to the region if Xi Jinping's forces initiated an 'unprecedented attack'. But his explosive comments were quickly torpedoed by the White House, which said official policy had not changed.

An official rushed to stress the US remains 'strategic ambiguity' to the threat to Taiwan - as set out in the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act.

"On the one hand the U.S doesn’t recognise mainland China sovereignty over Taiwan but still sees Taiwan as a part of China."

We forget today that years ago Taiwan's Kuomintang (KMT) party claimed (claims?) sovereignty over mainland China.
"Tricky Dick" Nixon figured out that if we say we agree China is one country, then we could seemingly recognize both claims, and we'd all get along fine, right?

But the US has been committed to Taiwan's defense since the time of President Truman and the Korean War.
All that "strategic ambiguity" means is that we don't say in advance exactly what forms our defense of Taiwan will take.

Publicly it's said that Pentagon war games show we can't win a fight over Taiwan.
My guess is, if that were really true, then it wouldn't be made public.

I don’t think the U.S would recognise an independant Taiwan and end the schizoid policy about Taiwan once and for all. What do you think?

I heard the entire speech - daily mail once again pushing for war by inflating what XI said.

I did see where he set 2049 as a timeline for unification. That doesn't sound terribly imminent.

You have it 100% backwards.

Perhaps. All I am reporting is, the view expressed by two direct reports I have who live, or are from there. One is 26 and currently lives in Taiwan. The other is 52, is from Taiwan...still has family in Taiwan, but works in Shanghai. He travels back and forth. He spent the equivalent of 3 months in quarantine last year. Maybe, the isolation warped his opinions?

Xi may be trying to trick the American people into “rallying around” Xiden on the “national security issue” of Taiwan and voting Democrat in the midterms.

From that map, obviously Taiwan will have to do most/all of the defending by itself - even if the US wanted to help, Okinawa is still too far away

that’s why the Russia-Ukraine War is so relevant ... a smaller force managing to thwart a larger one with lots of MANPADS, NLAWs, drones, high-tech electronics, etc., shows that it can be done

and Taiwan has a strong will to fight any invasion

What do they mean “retake”? They never had it. They will lose at least 2 million soldiers trying to take it.

I fear we are in for another Pearl Harbor like attack in the near future. One nuke to finish our navy with one blow.

Xi is just blustering to save face. Xi saw what is happening to Putin, and even Biden can deter him from invading Taiwan.

China will move slowly—and in concert with other nations. Islands first and only when America is “distracted” with social unrest. Look to see Russia, China and Iran working together as one.

China’s military is weaker and more pathetic than RuSSia’s.

Try it scumbag, and you’ll get what Putin’s getting, only worse because Taiwan is already heavily armed.

just saying, a country that can create the World’s most advanced computer chips is probably smart enough to create some smart defensive measures

and China is probably surprised by the amount of outside countries helping Ukraine - knowing a similar situation would happen if Taiwan was attacked

Ukraine is a warning ... China invades Taiwan at their own deserved peril

Everyone knows Taiwan is independent. There’s even a term they use for pretending it’s not: “diplomatic fiction.”

Trump and Pompeo ceased practicing it when he sent Alex Azar to Taiwan and Keith Krach to Taiwan.

There's zero chance of the USA "running out of weapons," no matter how much you punks want to see rape and murder on a mass scale somewhere in the world.

Screwball alert!
