New York state is banning the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035, in a move officials say is aimed at cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions and getting more electric vehicles on the road.
Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, said Thursday that she was directing the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation to implement the regulations. Those regulations will be filed by the end of the year, a spokeswoman for the governor said.
Ms. Hochul, who first announced the goal last year, said the state couldn’t move forward until California officially approved its own regulations—which it did last month, banning the sale of new gasoline-powered cars and trucks by 2035.
“We had to wait for California to take a step because there’s some federal requirement California had to go first,” she said at a press conference Thursday.
The Clean Air Act of 1970 granted California the ability to set its own environmental rules, and other states can choose to adopt them.
Like California, New York’s rules would apply to all new cars, pickup trucks and SUVs, Ms. Hochul said. The regulations would establish annual targets for the share of zero-emission vehicles auto makers must sell in the state, starting at 35% in 2026, ramping up to 68% by 2030, and 100% by 2035. Many car makers have already said they are working toward an eventual phaseout of gas-powered vehicles.
Ms. Hochul said New York towns and cities can apply for grants to help them buy zero-emission vehicles for their fleets, as well as help them build electric-vehicle charging stations.

It's no wonder why the anti-Trumper establishment HATED that he made America "Energy Independent."
It totally shot their agenda in the A$$... which they are just NOW trying to put into place.

Hochull directs regulations to this end. Has the legislature enacted any such laws? Or is legislation now as passé as the Constitution?
I am too old to deal with this, and too young to not worry over it. Complete madness, which will be repeated in other States too.

Zeldin needs to bury her and NYS need to help him do it.
Wow.
No vote in the NY House.
No vote it the NY Senate.
Just decree it so.
The Senate and House can just go home now, they are no longer needed.
Better move that dealership farther out...New Jersey, PA & 12 other states tend to follow CA vehicle emission regs fairly quickly:

The NY gas-powered vehicle ban will make the skin color of Tesla drivers on NY roads a glittering showcase of white privilege.

“2019, New York was the fifth-largest consumer of petroleum among the states, but New Yorkers consume less petroleum per capita than residents of any other state in the nation.”
This ain’t about saving the planet, is it...
I predict some of the biggest car sales years in history in the early 2030’s. And yes they will be gas and diesel engine vehicles, not the electrics that the politicians are hoping for.
Best investment....barn full of used gasoline powered tools and vehicles.
“I can visualize me stranded somewhere with dead battery.”
Don’t worry. You probably won’t be stranded too far away from home and you’ll be able to walk home. You might even be able to borrow some extension cords.
How many inhabitants of the five boroughs park on the street at night?
One million? Two million?
I've lived in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Boston, and I can't even imagine what's going to happen to permit overnight charging of several million cars that park on the street, every night.
Vermont has already announce they are in on this.
I wouldn’t worry too much though. The probability of the regime surviving past 2028 or 2032 is quite low.
Pray the changeover will be peaceful.

They’re not suppose to...they are suppose to take the bus!
They would have supported it anyway, totally controlled by kook Leftists. But I get your point, it seems NY doesn't have a Governor, we have a King/Queen.
