Climate Change is Helping to Rapidly Turbocharge Storms Like Hurricane Ian
TIME ^ | September 28, 2022 | BY SETH BORENSTEIN/AP

Hurricane Ian is quickly gaining monstrous strength as it moves over oceans partly heated up by climate change, just like 30 other Atlantic tropical storms since 2017 that became much more powerful in less than a day.

As the world warms, this turbo-charging of storms is likely to become even more frequent, scientists say.

While climate change doesn’t create Ian and other hurricanes, scientists say that a warming world means an increase in rapidly intensifying storms. Climate change also is making storms slower and wetter, worsening deadly storm surges through sea-level rise, increasing freshwater flooding and expanding the proportion of monster Category 4 and 5 storms, like Fiona last week, several studies show.

The current hurricane season had been uncharacteristically mild until about a week ago because of dry air in the Atlantic. Yet while storms aren’t necessarily more frequent, they are getting nastier because of global warming, experts say.

Whatever happened to the inevitable wave of killer hurricanes that were supposed to ravage the east coast?

These people are fk’n incredible.

They went from the quantifiably disprovable "number of storms" to the harder to disprove "nastiness" of storms once someone took five minutes to count them. The primary increases in storm count came from satellites seeing mid-Atlantic storms that disappeared before hitting the shore.

I expect most of the increase in "nastiness" comes from many more people living on Florida's coasts rather than leaving them for the palm trees and alligators.

"Catastrophic" seems to be the key word from the BB Dayorder.

It's almost like they're trying to cause a mass panic. They're blaring these headlines all across the southeast.

Meteorologists have been tracking water temps for decades to estimate severity of storms and the Hurricane season “population”.
It is even done in the Great Lakes.
Warmer water means more energy being taken into the storm.
The energy is expended somewhere...

Yep, and the damage in dollars will go up because of more houses in a smaller area and inflated home values.

“There is absolutely no scientific data to back this claim!”

THere is no scientific data to back any of their claims, other than there very dubious climate models. These models are great for them because they can produce any results they want depending on how they adjust for the many different factors and interactions involved.

Again, there is no other evidence for “climate change” other than those specious models.

Show me a climate model that can correctly forecast next winter and springs temperature and precipitation anomaly. They try, but they are not very good.

They said the same damn thing after Katrina washed out New Orleans - then we went almost 10 years before another major hurricane (Cat 3 or higher) hit the US mainland: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_hurricanes

If we had no hurricanes, they would just say that Climate Change is causing a lack of hurricanes, which of course, is also bad.

That’s the great thing about Climate Change, no matter what, you’re always right!

few years back, the NHC went back to “revise” certain storms and Camille was the only one that had her winds lowered....they simply refuse to believe the readings that came from actual Hurricane Hunter flights into Camille...the last plane to go thru at 7 P.M. ..a few hours before land fall recorded winds at 190 MPH with gusts to 210 MPH. That plane lost an engine and limped back to Houston and no other pilots volunteered to go back in after that. An oil rig on the “weak” side of the storm has a wind gauge break when the peg stuck at 172 MPH...Not confirmed, but some had gusts at 237 MPH. By any measure, Hurricane Camille is the single strongest storm of any kind to strike the mainland of the United States...that doesn’t fit the narrative that Hurricanes are getting “stronger”...

IIRC the wind gage at Keesler broke at 200. I got back To Bay St Louis the day after the storm from moving our ship to Mayport Fl. We had to detour up to I-55 and back down to New Orleans since what there was of I-10 (Not complete at the time) and Hwy 90 were beat to hell. They Bay St. Louis bridge had one useable lane and I remember MHP blocking the road for locals only. With a Thompson IIRC.
