Social media across China and the rest of Asia continues to be in overdrive today as persistent rumours that president Xi Jinping has been removed in a coup refuse to die down.

Local and regional media speculate China’s long-standing leader was removed when he was away in Samarkand while attending the recent SCO summit, on 14 September.
Xi Jinping has reportedly not been seen in public since then although any rumours have been widely debunked in the last 24 hours.
Nevertheless, according to various reports in half a dozen Asian countries today, including India and Singapore, there are unconfirmed reports Xi Jinping has been placed under house arrest and is being replaced by the powerful army general Li Qiaoming.
Li Qiaoming, who is among the most senior officials of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), has served as commander of the Northern Theater Command since September 2017.
When approached by City A.M. this afternoon local time in Beijing, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs refused to comment.

Will Xi’s next appearance be a remarkable resemblance to
“Weekend At Bernies” ?????
That’s weird. It looks like a bunch of General Li Qiaoming’s ribbons have been repeated on his jacket and spill across his lapel. Who knows? Maybe how that’s how they wear their ribbons. But it looks a bit funny.
Xi wants war like Putin, general says - nope.
No. He will appear in a newly planted forest in northern China. Trees need fertilizer.
Good catch. Now I can’t unsee that. But maybe normal.
This will sound calloused, I do not care.
A military dictatorship might be good for China. It would at least get rid of the Communist party.
Meet the new boss.
Same as the old boss...................🤷♂️

In October 2017, he was elected as a member of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China
He’s not from any of the ruling families, so he might be very temporary.
RE: China in grip of coup rumours as Xi Jinping house arrest reports grow with all eyes on General Li Qiaoming
I thought this was already dismissed yesterday as rumor and fanciful speculation?
How come it is being revived again?
It has been said that the so-called “news” that flights in and out of Beijing were being cancelled were UNTRUE. Flight schedules looked normal.

Its a placard with the ribbons mounted and its a bit askew.
I wonder what this guy’s Taiwan policy would be, more likely
to attack?
I don’t care either, but I would caution, sometimes the Devil you know is better than the Devil you don’t know.
Meaning this General might be more hard line and wants to invade Taiwan right now and Xi Jinping might have been holding him off.
Point is, if these rumors turn out to be true, no one knows what might happen.
While armies of Freepers have been busy predicting Putin’s days are numbered, it looks like he will outlast Xi.
The foreign policy “experts” around here are a joke.
Perhaps Xi’s fatal error was too much caution—failure to invade Taiwan while Bidet was in the White House....
Li's got a lot of catch-up to match the NORK medals...
I suspect Putin told Xi that he was going to use nukes and Xi told his generals to prepare to join in.
Depends on if he has relatives or investments there........................
Exactly
